Yes it will work without backlinks. You'll need to spend time finding good low competition keywords or buy them.

There are several checklists you can probably find online. But if you're targeting keywords that don't have any competition, you can have really low effort content rank.

You can start blogging .If you interested in some topics ie. fitness. Just create usefull contents regularly. You can search about how to create content for seo, and improve your skills this about. When you start to get traffics you can use google adsense or any platform to earn. Never give up. Firstly you can use any free blog service but my advice is to get a host and domain and start blogging on wordpress.
