Where would you NOT drop a link?

I have a huge list of drop places but I'm wondering if there are places you should not put your link. People talk about "bad neighborhoods" but what exactly is a bad neighborhood and how do you know if the site is included? Are there subjects (for blog and forum links) that you should avoid (sex, drugs, etc.). Some I wouldn't link on just because of my personal beliefs but I"m wondering if there are any specific subject matters that should be avoided.

From what I have heard, and how I go about doing my links, for myself and others...I try to avoid sites that are full of "viagara" and "porno" stuff...but I do not make it a mission to scrutinize each and every site. I have not had any problems with any sites I use.

Now, it don't mean that there are not sites that google has blacklisted, but you can check that with google, by seeing if that site is still indexed. If it is still indexed, then it really does not matter what is on the site, your links count. And the "count" value is determined by how many outgoing links there are, and the PR value of the domain of the site you have your links on. That is all we tend to watch and like...but bottom line..."a link is a link"....and that part is the truth...str8 from google.

no sites that are about gambling, porn, drugs or anything illiegal.

and pages that have allreaddy been spammed to death. a pr4 blogpage sounds nice, but if there are allready 250 comments with outgoing links on it its basicly useless. the pagerank of the page is shared between all links on the page, so with that manny links on the page the little bit thats given to you just isn`t worth it.
but you should digg a bit deeper into the this site, if there is one high pr page on it, there must be more of them.
usually 1 page of the that site ends up on some list of high pr links wich is shared on forums like this and is spammed heavily but other pages are still clean because people are just to lazy to digg a bit deeper in those sites.
i`ve ended up with quite a few nice personal lists of high pr webpages i can leave my link on that have no or little other links on them.

Your website will not be hurt by external sites linking to you, but only if your site link to "bad neighborhoods". I just wouldn't drop a link on websites owned by the US (my country, so you would do the same for yours) for legal reasons and matt cutts' blog for seo reasons.

well it never has been proven by my knowledge that links from "bad neighbourhoods" as posted in my previous post will really hurt you (it would be very easy that way to take out competition), i just don`t wanna take the risk, there are so much linking oppertunities out there, so why bother with things you`re not certain of.

From my experience never post a link to a site which has bad neighbourhoods like containing adult links and posts only a single link on class C ip addresses sites.

I sp his blog in a contructive "on topic" way and despite it being nofollow it definitely helped a few of my newer sites.

As a general rule of thumb, I stay away from Matt Cutts' blog.

If a majority of your links are coming from good sources then a few bad spammy links won't hurt you.

If they could, you could sabotage all of your competition.
