And that stupid File Manager they have is the absolute worst part. Once they shut down your site (which is what they basically did to us because we refused to upgrade any further), you can't even get in there to delete things or (what we wanted to do) move everything elsewhere. And their "support"? There is no support. It's just a bunch of dudes reading back the scripts they were given.

Ultimately, all said and done, in addition to the money we wasted on building there, we are also out around $1,800 in advertising costs alone. We had just launched a campaign before everything went south and the whole network crashed. They could do nothing to help us get it back up and functioning. So, basically, we advertised our network across several platforms only to have visitors click through to a dead site. Ugh.

I can understand they did seem to start with amazing support wise but once traffic goes up at all they become a nightmare so fast.

A big reason for why so many people used to promote them all the time they had a very popular Affiliate system for why nothing negative used to appear about them in the past but over the last few years, I noticed more and more people complaining about them all the time more less.

Sounds good once you leave them fully your problems should be gone fast.

See, I didn't know that about the affiliate program. Before I got the hang of AWS and Linode and the like, I primarily stayed with one particular hosting company and just put all of my stuff there. For this project, while I'm the "lead", we have a number of different, very talented folks involved - but I am probably the most techy of the bunch...and that's not exactly a stellar recommendation for me. I'm no slouch and I should have known better - but, obviously, I didn't know enough to know what we were walking into here.

I've been doing this a while and one of the cool/shitty things about IM is that as everyone finds their niche, they become VERY GOOD at that one thing. It's so hard to put together a team of people that kinda know it "all" (we can't all know it all, of course). So, you end up with mistakes like this. Basically, it was our very talented designer that recommended SG. She can sure make some pretty websites but now we know she sure sucks at picking hosts. lol!

But that makes perfect sense now regarding all of their stellar reviews everywhere.

Totally agreed. SiteGround, like other major "webhosting business" have become nuisance with their "unlimited" packages which are misleading by hiding the truth in the tiny font lines in the end of the page. It's same story with all these companies - it's starts by "UNLIMITED WEBHOSTING ONLY 1.99$", then you find it's only 1.99$ if you prepay for 36 months, if you wish to pay monthly without being stuck with them it's 3.99$ and then they limit your inodes, not to mention "UNLIMITED TRANSFER" which is bullshit, as they mark it with "fair use" which you can never be sure what it is and if and when they gonna shut you down.

Well, it's obvious, unlimited sites allowance doesn't mean it has the resources to run unlimited sites.

majority of these big "registrar/webhosting" like sitehosting, godaddy etc are complete utter trash.

Any serious money sites needs a decent server.

Cloudways is overpriced as well...
Why not just get it direct....

Because, some people need managed service, and Cloudways provide exactly that.

Not to mention that their renewal fee is ridiculously overpriced. I ditched them and went with cloudways.

I am seriously shocked that this host was one that I found recommended on BHW. I can only assume that these "reviews" were made by newcomers to building sites, certainly networks.

I switched to an ovh vps and here is a small story for you.
Two weeks ago my website was under attack and i got this email from them:

Dear Customer,

We have just detected an attack on IP address xxxx.

In order to protect your infrastructure, we vacuumed up your traffic onto our mitigation infrastructure.

The entire attack will thus be filtered by our infrastructure, and only legitimate traffic will reach your servers.


At the end of the attack, your infrastructure will be immediately withdrawn from the mitigation.

At the end of the day this is what maters the most for me.

I made the exact same experience. They call it "unlimited websites" but there was a limit of inodes. Once it exceeded the limit the websites wouldn't work anymore. Funny part about this: They had several addons in the cPanel, which generated countless files by itself for cache or other useless purposes. So they would generate useless files on my account and then tell me: "Oh, you almost reach the limit, please update your hosting plan". Such a joke
