Matt Cutts talking about links from edu, gov, Twitter, Facebook

He basically says that EDU & GOV links carry the same weight as they do from .com it depends how reputable (Page Rank) that page is.

With Facebook it depends if the profile is public or not. If it's private, it probably won't be crawled and shared Page Rank.

Hmmm, so EDU & GOV links carry the same weight. Maybe it's that they come from such a reputable source, for example, PR and other inbound links to their site, that they give back such good SEO strength?

nasa.gov has a pr of 9...
Is this guy a part of member? Sorry, I am new here. Wouldn't know. Late.

I think this is the most frustrating thing about SEO these days, why the hell are people relying on Google's word for everything? Back in the day SEO used to be all about doing what works.

I just think that SEO's think they are working for Google these days.

I think people are forgetting that Matt Cutts is the head of web spam team, of course he is going to say crap like we treat links equally etc, so that people stop spamming them. Imagine the guy said yes we do give so much power to Twitter links and Facebook links and we do give credit to nofollow, the spam on these sites would get ridicuous and the SERPs would turn to muck.

Matt Cutts job is to push people off the radar, I mean I bet hundreds of SEOs now are thinking ooh crap lets stop doing this.

Well you followers stop doing it and the clever SEOs will dominate all the rankings

This is nothing new. Google have always said that sites like edu or gov do not necessarily carry any more weight but given the type of sites they are they usually end up with a lot of weight i.e. they have a lot of links from authority sites, well organised, regular updates etc.

I think hes pushing the edu gov link a bit too far. He mentions it everytime he talks about links. It wasn't even in the question

everyone at google spews propaganda just enough to screw up those who dont understand how to rank good with google, i always enjoy hearing how matt cutts states "if you want people to link to your site build high quality content pages" yea, sure, okay, ill keep making high quality original content while no body on the web will link to my site for my original and helpful work IT DOESNT F****** HAPPEN. JUST STICK YOUR LINK IN HAS MANY HOLES AS YOU POSSIBLE CAN that's how you get rankings

That's what your mom said...(cheesy I know xD)

Seriously though over backlinking I've heard is as bad as not doing it enough.

well i know one bad way to do it, spam the links on matt cutts blog :D

Matt Cutts,he is never clear with what he says. Rather i think he always mislead people as being the webspam head.

who cares about what he said.
even without google, you can make lots of money.

my best money maker doesn't involve search engines.
so, who the heck cares about all those seo junks?

if you can't make money without search engines,
then maybe you should measure your existence in this
world of internet marketing.

is google the ruler of internet?
go to the hell. we're blackhatting them for every
second the clock ticks. we're sucking their blood.

but, on what side you're?

yeah..thats right! I strongly agree with you.

Yeah... he even shaves his head to throw us off! I was supposed to use lie detection techniques, but I can't even establish a baseline with his damn shiney head glaring at me.

and lol, I can't imagein that getting TOO many links would be a problem as long as your site is established. if it's new then okay, maybe you get sandboxed... but after the initial gradual growth if too many backlinks is a problem, couldn't you just SPAM THE HECK out of your competitors with TONS of links and make them go away? lol, hey a site just outranked it, I better send it a ton of backlinks? it just doesn't sound logical to me.
