Sometime ago i stumbled upon a service, which claimed they were collecting traffic from tens of thousands of expired domain names, but i somehow lost it and can't find it anymore

Those that advertise human traffic, you can be sure it will be not. If you're lucky you'll get popup ads, meaning those websites (not good quality anyway) that when you visit, open your website in a new page together with theirs. So mostly irrelevant traffic that will close your website in the new window right away.
