Why Do PBNs owners block ahrefs bots

Hi there,
This is my first thread in the Black hat SEO forum.
I have a simple question to ask:
Why do PBNs owners block ahrefs, moz bots? and does this prevent me from checking my website's backlinks (from PBNs) using ahrefs?

and if so, How can I detect if my competitors have PBNs linking to them?

Bcoz a pbn is a private network & to keep it private you need to hide it from those crawlers/bots.

How can I detect if my competitors have PBNs linking to them?

A properly setup pbn is almost impossible to detect.
However you can try some unpopular backlink tools there is a slim chance you might find them.
I feel the step a waste of time to look for hidden pbn links.
Rather invest that time to gather quality links.

PBN owners block some crawlers so they cannot be reverse engineered by their competitors.
If it is well done, then you will not see these backlinks in standard tools.

Same way you check any link is indexed.
Paste in Google search box if indexed it will show in search result.

Does blocking them really do anything? Why would they always send you headers that identify them, when they visit your website? Is this their rule or does it have any basis in modern internet lawss? If you change your settings to block them at a certain point, do they need to delete everything they have on your website or it only deletes or stops collecting certain things about it? Always wondered about that.

Yes it does help by blocking them once you invest in your own quality pbn you will know it's value.
I don't think it has anything to do with laws as there is no uniform law structure for the entire internet.
It's just a normal practice to send headers.
Following your blocking rules is entirely upon the crawler they may respect it or may ignore.

3 days is too early to decide as indexing has been a issue since a long time.
That being the case in public link farms.Quality sites pbn of guest posts index in a day or two.

If I was ahrefs, I wouldn't even introduce myself, because introducing myself could pollute the data I am collecting, I would just use generic browser headers. This is assuming that you can get away with that, which at their level and exposure, I don't know, because I never researched this.

To prevent other SEO from discovering their networks amd taking negative actions on them. Also letting every Tom, Dick and Harry discover your network of PBNs could lead to much more serious competition than you had.

They are most likely blocking ahrefs and majestic etc because they don't want other SEOs to find out how they are ranking their sites and out rank them.

Which is funny, because the most limiting factor usually is not not knowing how to and where, but not being able to pay for all the links, unless they are trying to hide a certain "trick" or a specific site exploit.

A minor reason to block these crawlers is to make it more difficult for competitors to analyse competition/link profile,
But the major one is to hide it as it can be easily be reported and taken down,
The best way to find out about these PBNs is by using bing webmaster tool, the method has been shared here a couple of ways before, check it out!

Not all PBNs block ahrefs or Moz, in fact some of the strongest PBNs I’ve seen advice against it. It’s almost like a footprint in itself. The only people I know who block things like ahrefs are PBN owners which is kind of a giveaway. A “regular” site wouldn’t do that, and that’s what a PBN tries to be.
