Curious if you think even mentioning covid like in a sentence "it was cancelled due to covid" could result in negative effects whether that be in google ranking or display ad revenue.

I certainly have negative emotions when all my favorite animes that already took 3+ years to come out with new seasons were "delayed due to covid" So probably.

Avoid it for the time

You should use the word "pandemic" instead of "COVID" or "COVID-19". This will slightly improve the situation. When you write covid, Google may consider it as health information, or the users may have negative emotions associated with the word. I've seen many people use pandemic instead for obvious reasons.

Yes, You couldn't have said it any better. We may know not know what the facts are behind the words and google rankings, however, we may use neutral or safe words to mitigate the risk of not ranking due to these words.

It does not have any negative effect.

This is what I do. If I can help it, I avoid mentioning the pandemic. I just write something that alludes to the pandemic like "due to the restrictions" or "people are staying at home."

As time goes by the post will be outdated and Google will recognise this. Try and build evergreen content - content that is timeless.

You can also write like, "The services have been postponed/cancelled due to the ongoing crisis."

Last year, I know that most pages talking about covid were removed, I conducted the search myself. Only authority websites especially news and NGO sites are displaying covid News and updates. Google I believe want to remove false information, I'll recommend to stay away from writing content because it will affect your entire website ranking at the moment.

It could put you into a category of extra scrutiny just as it does on social media.
