Best way to stop drinking

Ask a psychiatrist for psychotropic drugs which will help you dealing with the reality sober.

Isn't that the point tho?

Don't those drugs do the same as whatever other drugs?

Someone told me about a pill that you take every time you crave booze and when you take a sip it would taste like piss and you won't want to take another sip.

I don't know if I understood correctly.
But psychiatric drugs (medicaments) have nothing to do with drugs like weed or cocaine.

They are supposed to rewire your brain. They are more like nootropics than drugs.
But they are much safer than nootropics and people should really ask a psychiatrist for help - not online supplement forums.

You should not take strong psychotropic drugs like benzodiazepines.

You should also avoid neuroleptics.

You should choose something that is safe long term.

I would not recommend SSRIs (just tell your doctor you don't want to have erection issues and that you fear brain fog).

SSRIs are not the best thing to deal with addictions in the first place.

There are alternatives. A psychiatrist should research them for you.

You need to look for the least amount of side effects.

Yes, I am tired also it depends on the mindset.
Naah, the euphoria alcohol gives is on par with heroin if you have mental issues.

It takes you from being tired, anxious to being happy and laughing.

Stimulants won't do that. If you feel shitty, you will feel shittier.

Alcohol will take you from 0 to 100. On demand.

Take it from someone who has tested all kinds of drugs.

Half the society is in this pattern.

  1. They go to job.
  2. They get f*ked by their boss.
  3. They earn sh*t.
  4. They return home, tired.
  5. They grab a bottle of beer and enjoy the cure-all!

The best way to stop drinking is to realize that you're addicted it has already turned out into a real problem with your mental health. If you realize this fact it will be much easier for you to stop drinking. Then, you have to find an activity which will distract you from drinking. It can be any activity which you like or you think about. The next step will be the full rejection of alcohol and try to avoid it any time you have an opportunity to drink. If you understand that you can't handle with this habits by yourself, visit therapist or psychotherapist which will help you to struggle with this bad habit. Just understand how hard it destroys you.

Want to stop drinking and I am considering the Alan Carr method.

Has anyone had success with this or another method?
Not sure what the Alan Carr method is, but I can say I quite cold turkey. I just stopped. I probably wasn't that heavy of a drinker compared to many. Not sure of your situation, but cold turkey seems the best. Good luck brother.

Oh, just thought of it, but Kratom might work well. Research Kratom.

Hello brother. I'll admit I did not read the full thread, but I've seen enough "nothing will help but you"-type replies and some absurd advice to throw in my two cents. I've struggled with different substances - yet in the end it's relatively all the same. If you're at the point of asking BHW for help I assume you realize you have a problem. You've probably tried to stop already and failed. That's okay. It happens. I've been there before, countless times.. it's part of the bullshit. Don't stress it. Try to learn from it.

My advice? If you're having shakes please reach out to a hospital for detox. Don't just stop drinking as some have suggested. You can have seizures and possibly die from that withdrawal. They'll give you meds to help with everything and ensure you're safe. What worked for me was entering a program and medication. Have you tried AA? The religious aspects of it are shit IMO but the underlying message good. There are also similarly-structured alternatives to AA w/o the God aspect. S.M.A.R.T Recovery is one I believe. I strongly encourage you to find this kind of support group/network. People who understand. At the very least be truthful with trusted people in your life who can hold you accountable and read up on those programs even if you don't attend. All of the steps are available online. You can also join some sobriety-focused groups on social media.

There are also a number of medications available to help you too. Look into them if you feel you need to. That kind of shit helps when you think you're clever, still using and hiding it from others. Can't really fool medication that's in you. It'll make you learn or suffer the consequences :D

In my experience it's much easier to overcome when you have support. It's possible to do on your own, but it's also possible to try that for years before accepting reality. Regardless, it likely won't be easy. Don't get discouraged. Day after day just keep trying. Find things to distract yourself with when the inevitable urge comes. Exercise, programming, music, whatever works for you. Stay busy. Just don't let those urges fester or they'll grow like some kinda nasty slime mold. In time the urges will lessen.

Also, in my experience and maybe a bit controversial still, a good psychedelic experience can help you re-evaluate things real quick and break out of destructive programming. I quit smoking cigarettes after a good acid trip where I blew out a cloud of cancerous smoke. Cancer runs in my family. Fuck cancer. Fuck cigarettes. Ain't smoked since.

Wishing you the best. Know it's possible to overcome.

Brother, if you have any mental/physical issues that need ameliorating, absolutely nothing is on par with heroin........ stay away from opiates y'all :poop:

Much love BHW. Stay safe out there. Stay healthy. We only have one life and one body. Cherish it.

Lol opiates are not what you think they are. They don't get you hooked the first time you use them. Probably MDMA is more addictive and harmful.

I guess your source of knowledge is 1st page of Google. Noob.

Please do not stop drinking. Atleast continue to drink water, please. But, if you want to stop drinking, then the best way to stop drinking is just to stop drinking !!!

Has anyone had success with this or another method?

One method is simple: stop buying alcohol and you will stop drinking alcohol.
Of course social pressure is a big element too, so control your life better, and it will be easier to stop drinking.
No need for a "method"!

This sounds like solid advice.

 also seen enough of you to know you are nothing but a useless troll. 1st page of Google? Unfortunately I used opiates for over a decade. I've seen a lot. Some people do get hooked after the first experience. Others it's more insidious and grows over time without you even realizing. You shitpost too much, now go get your shine box you fucking goober.

I hope you're doing well today OP. Much love.

Where are you from OP? If Europe, I strongly recommend Vorbjev clinic in Belgrade. 10 days (detox and some paychoteraphy), disulphiram implant on day 9, trying alcohol on day 10 and going home then.

I promise you, taking just a sip of alcohol after getting disulphiram implant (injection) will make uou stop thinking about it for good.
If you want more info, PM me ;)

I used to be an alcoholic.. a normal evening was half a bottle of Vodka on the rocks to pass out. Of course, it showed on my health, to the point that I made a conscious decision to quit. Kept reminding myself 'not to drink' during the one month process.. It somehow culminated with a mandatory health check at work, which saw my BP borderlining on hypertension (i also smoke). That evening when I got my results, I threw away the bottle of vodka.

Supplemented it with herbal teas that I liked. And there was no turning back. Thankfully Covid came and socializing was also out of question.

The biggest test was walking through the supermarket and passing by the alcohol section (yea, where I live, alcohol is sold like water). It was tough at first, but soon even the little urge left me.
Another tough test is when things dont work out and you feel down, thats when the little voice tells you how nice it would be to have a glass of alcohol in hand... When I had thoughts like that, I just stuck to tea.

This October I finish a year of staying sober.. baby steps, but still proud that I could breakout from this addiction.

P.S: As the guy above me said.. train your mind.. it really helps!

For me, even the faint smell of alcohol now makes me sick in the stomach.
