WordPress 5.8 supports the WebP format by default

So starting with WP 5.8, u can just abandon png/jpg etc and just upload WebP.

No you need to upload it. This update is just the fix where uploading webp via media manager which was not working earlier.

Since I am switching outta liteserver to GCP containers i won't have the luxury of litespeed doing everything for me

you can use anywebp . com to convert image to webp or webp to image. I have ever used that and everything is working great.

Generally, most browsers support WebP. I think it is not a big problem.

Don't know much about that format and it's not supporting for some reason So, I just convert WebP to Png/jpg and use it on my blogs

i think you can use jpg/png as a fallback with a plugin, forgot which plugin can do that.

Thanks, using Imagify for the time being for my old/current pictures to switch to webp
Will eventually replace them all and remove the plugin

New images will be uploaded as WEBP from the get go
