That's an enormous amount of content and I wonder how much of that is garbage, duplicate, spam content and how much is original content. Going by the current trend of many services giving AI content and emergence of alternative GPT algorithms, I think this is likely to increase manifold in the years to come. I think there will be a page or pages of content about any topic that we think. If anyone posts any original content, then other AI programs / writers will pick it up may be spin it or twist it and publish it. I think only those pages will rank that are a part of an authority site or maybe search algorithms will filter out mediocre/spam/ai content but again filtering will be based on AI algorithms....so it will be an algorithms race - the one that is able to produce good quality content vs the one that is able to filter out bad quality content. What happens when they reach an equilibrium? I have no idea.

This is already happening. The quality of Google results started deteriorating. They should give more value to blogs than authority sites to avoid this crisis. I think the content is the only thing stopping these BH tools from flooding the internet. In a couple of years, we can see some tools creating unique comments and spamming them all over the internet. We will have trouble finding humans from bots.

The worthlessness of www search engine results will lead to a reawakening of i2p and freenet usage for the average public, as search capabilities that had always been the elusive bane of non www content networks wanes in importance. ( I wish )

It's Mirc, I mean ICQ, I mean MSN, I mean Yahoo, I mean Facebook, i mean IG chat death by bot proliferation all over again, just a different content mode and network ( of networks).

Automation (and AI in some cases) is a part of the normal evolutionary process in any industry. It does not necessarily "destroy" it.
As human beings, we should be open to change. We can't afford to build skyscrapers solely on human labour when machines can ease the job.

For example, let's say you have got credible knowledge of a subject. However, your writing skills are below par that drives people away from reading your content.
I believe it would make much more sense both for you as well as the community in general if a tool can improve the readability and flow of your content while you can focus on sharing the knowledge. It's a win-win for everyone.

Again, I get the point. AI can generate a lot of trash too, which I hope was not the case. It's a double-edged sword.

Quality of content on the internet has been declining anywway - - ever since bandwidth became cheap. People who would take a year to write a book now spread out the information over three thousand videos - a lot less efficient and a lot more profitable. AI generated content is just the next step in information bloat. Those of us who are discerning and have critical thinking skills will always find the information they need.

I see 'authority' sites are ranking on content or 'wisdom' they haven't invented themselves... If AI can write this content and maybe even factcheck it themselves... this will become very interesting ;-)

In fact AI, deep fakes, bots, automation, etc, will destroy our whole system. We won't be able to distinguish which is real from which is fake, eventually everything will become artificial and there will be chaos.

The major drawback of current generation of AI writers I think is that we have to manually fact check each and every statement. AI however is great in writing fictional stories and plots where you don't need fact based information. The day AI is able to write factual non fictional long form content is the day when we'll get great content at super low prices. That will be the time we will get to see how the search engines and internet will evolve. That will be the time when small time niche blogs like mine that have accumulated 100 to 200 articles over a period of many years, will be able to become authority blogs by posting hundreds of posts at affordable prices.

Yes, this is very true. Google can't tell great content from average content. It can tell when you're discussing the right topics though and when the page layout is right(content length, images, videos, tables, buttons)

It does rank really crappy content. You can just create some spun content and rank within a few days on an aged domain for low comp keywords. Properly low comp content has so little competition that almost anything remotely targeting it is going to rank. It's not like trying to rank for stuff multiple people are targeting where you need to really tick a lot of the boxes. For the low comp stuff a title, a few sub-headings and using the keyword a few times does the job.

As someone with access to GPT3 and the new OpenAI Codex I can verify all these claims.

I use GPT3 to respond to HARO prompts at amazing speeds. I haven't messed around too much with GPT3 for low comp mass content creation and doubt it's that much better than the open source ones for stuff like that, especially given GPT3's harsh TOS rules. In terms of acting as an assistant for content creation, it's incredible. I've input scenes from my favorite books and it started writing additional content with the same tone!!
