reworking an old site

I have a Amazon affiliate site. Which has not been doing a lot. So I am thinking of either starting a new site or perhaps trying to grow this site.
But so far what i have done in the past has not worked. It makes about $300 a year and is about 4 years old.

If I were to either write some new article and and this is the key.
I find an old site( expired or deleted domain) that is relevant to the article and does not look spammed. What could i do if anything to take advantage of this old site?

Without knowing the keywords, searches, your rankings and so on is impossible to o recommend you anything... Do a keyword research and see if you can add relates keywords that may bring some more traffic.. If there is no volume to attack then yes, create a new one targeting other keywords... Or even try to target those new keywords with the same site as a new section to see how it ranks
