What stops people from buying cheap services (likes or views) directed towards their competitor in a certain niche with the intent of flagging their account or doing anything to lower their engagement?
I've seen threads where people mention that SMM panels or any form of fake engagement has completely killed their channels because of how ridiculous YouTube is.

That does happen it's a negative SEO attack some people do but you should not do it either way.

People have been doing this for a long-time but in my opinion, it doesn't work especially long-term. Channels with legit engagement are gonna perform well organically regardless. Even if somehow you take that channel out they might have backups ready to go and you'll never beat them if they're growing organically at a good rate.

One thing that I've learned over the years with YT is never worried about your competition in most genres there's enough room for everybody to eat. Just do you and worry about your own growth. The problems on YT start when you focus way too much on your competition.

Newbies fail because of terrible content & outdated methods, and then blame it on SMM panels. Channels with good audience retention will work regardless of SMM channels. If your competitor makes extraordinary content, sending fake followers or likes will help him. If your competitor is already struggling, then you don't need to do anything to make them fail.

you might end up helping your competitor rather than bringing down his channel because most views from a good panel could even help rank the video. A channel that is already doing great will not feel any negative effects of malicious engagements, but could rather benefit from it

these methods do work, but the bigger a channel is the less these tricks works. Don't expect to bring down a 1M subscribers channel with these tactics. You can do something up to maybe 10k subscribers, over that it becomes useless.

as much as it may seem that it might help competitors or that channels with good audience wont be effected, that is not fully true.
if you do long term botting or smm channels, they will flag and shadowban you.
so yes some people i know have used this as negative SEO to get good performing channels shadowbanned.
you can kill almost any channel by sending fake views long term.
its negative SEO method
(there are exceptions)

i can confirm this.
bigger authority channels are nearly immune to this neg seo attack from fake views.
