Extremely Confused

So, I started a real project on a relatively competitive keyword (~70k in title) and I honestly have no idea what is going on and why my page is ranked so horrendously for the primary keyword and is ranked for the keyword phrase (cheap electric guitars) lower than pages that don't even have the whole phrase on them and have no back links at all. It has been steadily falling in Google for months now despite me doing everything I could think to do to improve it. I've done some small-time seo before but this totally baffles me. My website (http://www.cheap-electricguitars.com) is ranked at ~500 in google as opposed to ~170 4 months ago before I did anything with it at all and is ranked under http://www.blogged.com/topics/child-electric-guitar/ which doesn't even have the keyword phrase on the page or in the domain.

I'm just really frustrated because I'm ranked between 4-6 in bing and that seems to respond to my seo and link building and google just shits all over my face. Any sort of insight would be awesome. I'm about to just give up on the site and spend my time elsewhere despite the fact that the keyword is amazing, the domain is really good, and the content on my website is also quite good.

Is Google your only source of income for this business...are you reliant on them other than other forms of traffic?

1. The dance - that they speak off which google does

2. The fact that other people are doing more and are seen as greater authorities than you?

I do like the term shiting on my face tho. That sgood.

This is something I normally avoid. However, at this point I don't really care and any specific advice that I can get would be better than not. If someone wants to dive in, go right ahead. I'm not making much money at the moment from this anyway.

Let's see if I can answer this.

1. I thought it might be the dance but it has been a steady, gradual decline over months. I think that's less dance and more actual problems.

2. I don't think so. When looking at other sites that come up mine should be (theoretically) somewhere much higher than it is.

It's about as unpleasant an experience I can imagine and I think it suits this situation quite well

that's HUGE competition dude. (i just did an INTITLE:"cheap electric guitars" and it came up 423k).

PLUS it has 255 MILLION broad search competition.

that's DOUBLE DOOBER DOODOO HUGE.

there are so many pages being let into the broad search results that of COURSE you're sinking.

you must remember, broad search is important because that's how people do it and it lets many others into the party (it is the lowest restricted).

i like to use broad < 500k, phrase < 35k, and intitle < 250.

my suggestion would be to focus on easier keywords to rank for fitting the above criteria. build lots of mini sites and you'll get much more traffic.

Thanks. I figured it was a little ambitious but the competition at the top of the google serps was pretty weak for the most part. And, like I said, I have a page 1 ranking in Bing and so I was pretty stoked but yeah, you're probably right. My eyes are too big for my stomach as the saying goes
