Advice on how to pick a domain

Hi all,

I'm trying to choose a domain for development, it's going to be a unique content blog in a technology niche.

I'm wondering what I should look for in avaliable domains. Of course, I'd like the domain to be a .com, but after that..

• Should I avoid trademark names? ie, Microsoft, Apple, Zune, Iphone?
• how specific should it be to my niche? or should I choose a general domain that is more memorable?
• anything else I'm forgetting? Complete beginner here!

use a .com domain containing all of your primary keywords (without dashes between the words). dont use trademark names!

I have found that .net and .org domains rank just as well in the search engines, so if your exact keyword is not available in .com, it's okay to use .net or .org. I have lots of websites with .net and .org extensions ranked on the first page of google.

This is good advice, I would agree. Especially with the trade mark thing, never use trademark names!!! NEVER!!!!
