I found a blog (same niche) that allows commenting for backlink. It can boost DR score by 10 (based on Ahrefs) but I wonder if it would hold any real value for ranking. What's your thought on this?

blog comments still work, both for traffic and SEO, but the trick is finding the right pages to comment on. If you can find pages that meet these conditions you've struck gold....
- the comment section allows linking back to your site
- you're the first person to comment... or one of the first 3-4 people anyway
- the site whose article you are commenting on has high DA (over 90 preferably)
- the site whose article you are commenting on is highly popular (gets millions of visitors a week)
- each new article that this website publishes gets syndicated to their list of subscribers and, subsequently, gets a flood of visitors within 24-48 hours of publishing / getting syndicated
- the article you are commenting on is even remotely relevant to your website's niche
- you are making a controversial / valuable comment regarding the topic discussed in that article
- your comments actually gets approved (duh!)
If you meet ALL of these conditions prepare for a flood of traffic to your website and, as a result, an increase in rankings (even if only temporary) as google likes popular sites more than anything.
But like I said, the trick is finding pages that meet these criteria and being among the first people to comment on, and your comment actually getting approved. If you can find these blog commenting works even better than backlinks, but how are you gonna find these pages ??? I'd like to know this, too....

Thank you my friend for your very detailed answer.
Sadly, this blog seems to failed one of the criterias you mentioned. Normal comments would exist permanently but ones with backlinks only last for a few days before auto-removed. This is still a very good site (80+ DR, highly relevant niche) so I would find a way to get around with it.

Many people like to have just random presence with this kind of links. But generally 99% of blogs have nofollow or ugc rels therefore the reputation it gives your site is almost 0.
Personally I have my own database, and send many of this blogs to my VA to just linkbuild accordingly for presence, not reputation. If you have 100 links, always like to have a good proportion of presence links and a good presence of reputation.
This is done because, only having reputation links smells awful from a link building perspective (specially when you grow big)
But don't expect anything. Just part of an strategy.

if it doesn't allow baclinks don't bother with it. I mean, why are you gonna waste time making a meaningful comment there? For bragging rights? Don't bother with it, honestly! I should have probably mentioned that allowing backlinks is the first, and most important criterion for blog commenting...

Still works but I would rather focus on stuff that really matters i.e good onpage, building links etc.

This is what came to my mind when reading the thread title. I have a feeling backlinks from comments will become useless seo-wise when more blogs start implementing the ugc rel attribute value. Who knows, maybe I’ll release a free plugin that does just that...

pharma & adult sites are comment spamming Wordpress sites. This is the reason Google implemented it to punish even nofollow links. I used to like them when I first started with SEO but not anymore. If I can freely post a link, so can anyone else, which means sooner or later your link will share space with other spammy sites.
