Does it really increase engagement answering all comments and directs? This has always been recommended, but what do you think? Can't it be a bit spammer, replying to hundreds of directs or comments each day?
Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

In my case it didn't help with engagement at all, still low :(

I personally think hashtag traffic has more potency
All of those comments on your post can be automated as well.
So, it's less likely to be seen as a trust factor.

Replying to comments and messages manually helps as well. Customizing the messages and making them look personal is a bonus.

Instagram takes every action into consideration but make sure you keep everything look as humane as possible.

You don't have to reply to each comment if you're getting hundreds of them. But replying does add a personal touch and definitely improves your engagement rate.

Each account is unique. "Increasing" the engagement means to increase the ER (Engagement Ratio, which is roughly "Likes + Comments / Followers"). Some accounts will lose followers, and in that case, the ER will increase without doing anything, but some accounts will grow so fast (thousands of followers per day), that the ER will anyway go down, no matter what you do, except if the growth is a viral ++ one with tons of engaged users that actually "bomb" the posts.

If you own a "normal, regular" account, yes, it will help a bit. You will get a %Likes and %Comments back (from your interactions), and it will increase the ER. If you have 500k followers, the increase will be small. But if you have 150 followers, it will make a big difference :)

It helps to build your brand. By replying to comments you build trust and loyalty with the followers.

Yes engaging your followers will increase engagement, in any niche, it's always beneficial to talk with your audience, see what they think and how they feel. This not only increases engagement but also helps with the trust factor, and buyer comfort.
