Question about Web 2.0 for Traffic Gen

I saw a few people using Web 2.0 like Medium to post their existing articles for getting traffic to their money site by mentioning the source + internal links. Medium even offers an option to import an article.

Now, I understand that Medium is using canonical tag structure, so it will not hurt the SEO of the original article on the money site.

Can we do this with other Web 2.0 like WordPress.com, HubPages etc. as well?

The main objective here is to get traffic to the money page, not building backlinks. When I get some SEO boost through these backlinks I will gladly take it as a positive side effect, but the goal is to generate traffic without hurting the original article SEO wise.

If you do not see your competitors there, that does not mean your audience is not. Most people are just too lazy to try.

The fact is there are millions of users on these platforms and somebody will be into what you are doing. If you are the only one doing it there, all the better.

I do remember that you had to tell googlebot about that page through schema using the "sameas" parameter in order to make sure that google understands that your web2.0 page is your site as well and doesn't try to rank against your site

there are WP plugins that will do this for you. I have tried many and each has downsides. I have settled on blog2social. I think they have medium. no quora. I don't think you need to worry about the canonical so much. Google knows what article is posted first.

What I do is, publish, Submit to search console, then share the next day. That way there is no confusion on which came first. It may be a pain on a larger scale.

Thank you for your help! After doing some more research based on your information I know a lot more now.

Does someone have a list with Web 2.0's having the option to use rel=canonical besides Medium? I've searched both BHW and Google, but couldn't find some resources.
