Why is BTC not recovering now ?

And what's the value in the USD?

It's a piece of paper that the federal reserve can print as much of as it wants.

Bitcoin is a digital cryptocurrency that has a limited supply of 21 million coins and can be easily transferred from one person to another.

The value in the USD is that what it can buy you tomorrow depends on what the country has produced, delivered as services, invented, etc. I.e its value depends on these most important aspects of development in a society.

The value of btc depends on what some douche has tweeted or what some dirty whale has planned.

Wrong.

This is a simplistic view.

The value of BTC has very little to do with what some douche tweets. That's just fluctuations. Bitcoin has grown consistently year on year for the past 10 years. That isn't going to change. Crypto IS going mainstream. You're welcome to hold onto a depreciating asset, while the rest of us make huge returns and hold something that's increasing in value.

Your response just shows you don't understand crypto at all. It solves a LOT of real world finance problems.

Bitcoin has value as long as enough people deem it to hold value. Simple as that.

The USD is not tied to what the US produces. It's far more complicated than that now and the whole finance system is a mess, with inflation getting worse. This isn't a problem if you just earn and spend, but it's a problem if you want to hold assets.

And what about gold? Do you really think gold has that much intrinsic value?

Let's look at the 30 year history.

Now, what the hell changed in the early 2000's to make gold go up?

It shot up after the 2007 global financal crash.

If you bought bitcoin in 2013 you'd be up an insane amount right now. If you bought gold in 2013 you'd be down.

If you'd bought $1 million of gold in 2013, in 2019 before the pandemic your gold would be worth $722k.

Taking inflation into account, that $722 in 2013 money is now worth $630860.85 in today's money.

Nice. Good investment. Good ol' gold.

It then shot up again because of the pandemic. Yes, it's not really worth that. It's because of the pandemic. If you buy in now, you're going to lose money once people start taking that money from gold and putting it back into other assets(including crypto)

People just like to think gold has some magic intrinsic value because it's used in some manufacturing processes.

It doesn't. It's mostly just supply and demand. The same as bitcoin. The only difference is gold is already topped out. Bitcoin will keep going up, because it's a better and easier way to store wealth than gold and YOU control it.

But you weren't even talking about gold. You're talking about USD, which just loses value every year.

Because it needs another/same billionaire to influence it :D

you contradict yourself a little , of course it doesnt need just some douche tweets but in order to go mainstream it needs publicity ( which it's receiving even from douche tweets, expecially when they are written by ppl with influence)

You all present reasonable arguments. Bitcoin will never reach 20k again. Those days a far gone. It will tho in fact be passed by Ethereum. I said it here first boys.

If Elon is dumping it's a good thing because he won't have influence over it.

The major argument against our system now is that inflation is bad, but in real terms inflation is a key metric that serves as a critical tool in modern monetary theory. If there was no inflation (or worse deflation) there would be much less incentive for cash heavy whales to deploy their hard earned stash, inflation makes it so capital get put to work and doesnt just sit there being hoarded.

I could see BTC being a high value asset like gold, thats a given. Will it replace fiat or some future smart e-fiat, no way. Will it replace the stock market? probably.

An inflationary smart currency (basically money with logic) could solve so many global issues its not even funny. It opens the door to expiring currency, and sub currency (money only used for rent or food or whatever). You could do UBI or sweeping government stimulus without worrying about hyperinflation for example since everyone would need to spend that money (unlike what is happening in the USA now).

I agree with you. Ripple is a plausible candidate for e-fiat minting partner. They will practically became the first "legal" crypto after the government let them win the case :)
