I end up linking to posts instead of the homepage because I think (maybe overthink) about user experience.
If I'm saying, Here you can learn more about Ethernet Cables, readers expect a related post, not a homepage where they have to find the post on their own.

Can't say for sure without knowing the actual site, but you should know that all bloggers nowadays are selling links so it doesn't mean it necessary is a PBN website. I try to avoid as much as I can sites that all of their posts are sponsored ones as it is a matter of time before it takes a dip.



No, I didn't say that at all. There are good services here as well, it just depends how you use them. A diversify link package is a diversify link package, nothing more. You shouldn't expect to boost your rankings for a keyword like "best gaming mouse" or "best SEO software".

As for domain relevancy, you should do your best and optimize your article where the link will be placed on. RSOs technique is the one that I use to get a link from a site that is not 100% relevant to my niche/website and it makes sure that it pumps my rankings.

All backlinks are bought in a form or another. If you are not paying $ for them, you are paying them with your time. So there is nothing wrong with buying backlinks (unless you buy a fiverr gig for 5$ and ask the seller to make the backlinks with your exact anchor text). Keep in mind that you shouldn't over-optimize your anchor text.

I don't really care about that as long as the site doesn't have all new posts with guest posts that are bought and linking out to sites that are not within the niche.

You want to make your backlinks look as natural as possible.

With that said, though, at the end of the day, it pay off to pay close attention to niche specificity

The closer the link source is to your niche, the better that source would be.

Another factor to consider is link difficulty

Put simply, if you have to jump through many hoops just to get the administrator or editor of the link source to link back to you, that’s a great link.

Why?

Chances are high your competitors won’t be able to get that link.

They’d rather spend their time and money going for lower hanging fruit.

This gives you a massive competitive advantage especially if that high editorial control website is closely related to your niche.
