UX beginner questions

Hello!
I've been working as a UI designer for maybe a year now and I'm also just starting to practice my UX skills. I have a question. Have you ever had clients who have no idea what is UX but they just want to get their website designed? What do you do in such cases? Do you explain to them your process, for example, user research, testing, etc?

I am just beginning to practice my UX skills with real people and basically, I know what I can do but I still feel worried I will fail to explain it to them in a good way.

What exactly is the issue? Since you’re the designer, aren’t you proposing a Lay-out to your customer?

From a professional web designer I expect some sort of consulting. I want you to tell me why my idea is not optimal and what could be done to have a better outcome.

You just need to make sure that you don’t implement stuff that’s not going to harm the user experience. I’m just saying that because you said that you were still learning.

From my experience working in UI/UX for some time, it always comes down to what the client wants and needs. If you're designing some app for a big company, UX should be definitely part of your work and you should be paid for it as well. If they need it and have no idea what it is, hop on a call and explain them. Down the road it's just a matter of A/B testing and their assistance before going to do a wireframe.

But honestly, if you're getting paid 300$ for some design, and they won't pay more, forget about UX. It requires a lot of brainstorming, testing, and TIME on your side so if you're not charging for that, forget it.

Also it all depends on who the client is, what are you designing and what will be the purpose of it. And the money. I know you're getting anxiety about that just me mentioning it (I know I had it when I was beginner) but if you don't charge enough, you'll do a terrible job because you won't put enough time into it. UX is very comprehensive so yeah.

But to cut my writing other things, to simply answer your question... if they have no idea, just get them on a call and explain them.

Good question. This is quite common with many clients. In-fact, this is why they hire a UX designer in the first place instead of getting a backend dev and provide him a design.

In these cases, I think it is better to follow your own workflow. It could start with making a solid requirement document first. For example, what is going to be the features of the site, how many pages it will have, what each page will have. For ease of visualization, you could use wireframe softwares (many web based wireframing softwares are available for free, I am sure you know about one already).

Then work in the spiral model may be. First finalize the screen and iterate until client is happy. Then depending on the type of app, make a mvp and show it to the client in different stages.

Thanks for the reply. I also thought I could maybe just ask them what do they expect to get from me by the end of the project. In this way, it will be easier to understand what I should do I guess.
