Web Designers..... Need your Expert Advice!!!

Hello everyone
I recently quit my job and I'm getting mad at myself for not starting my agency sooner. I want to focus on web design only.
No social media, maybe some SEO

This may seem like an obvious question -
Do you guys always use a theme and customize it to the client's info?
Or do you build the website from scratch?

Thinking I can buy about 4-5 full Pro high-quality themes and rotate them depending on the client/style
Pls help

Use one good technical theme like GeneratePress and learn it good, then use that to build custom websites, easier then learn 5-6 different themes. With the right base, you can build anything if you learned it well. Just my 2 cents.

If you are web designer then you customize themes.

If you are web developer then you build from scratch.

When writing frontends for my projects I use themes. I am a polyglot developer and spend more time getting it working and out the door. Themes make it easier for the frontends to look a certain way. But if you go the theme route try to find a designer that you like and like the way they code and format the files. Will make your life much easier.

If you make small and simple websites like blogs or landing pages, use WordPress with a premium theme and customize it
This doesn't require a lot of technical skills, but it will take some time to get used to the theme you've bought and fully master it

However, if a customer has very specific demands, then you might have to build the website from scratch
It might sound difficult to do and not very enticing but custom websites with special features can be worth a lot of money, so keep that in mind

If you are building a website from scratch and you are a developer, ask the client provide you with links to websites they would like theirs to look like. If you have a few templates that you are working with then provide them with a few of the examples you could do and ask them to pick one they like. If at all possible, do not charge by the job, but charge by the hour. If you charge by the job, don't be surprised when the client has a lot of changes they want made, and you get screwed financially when you have to put in a lot of extra overtime you hadn't planned on. Always have a contract which spells out all expectations. Always have a plan for different versions of the website based on the features you have to code. Good luck!
