Why all keywords lost their position

Hello,

Back in June 2020 I have launched my website and during August 2020 I have created unique content for 100 landing pages of different products and added 50 posts to the blog. I have used SEMrush and Marketmuse when writing the new content to ensure targeting the keywords properly.

When I started the work I have had the website ranking for 42 keywords organically. Over the next month I have had the website ranking for aprox. 2000 keywords worldwide. This was for about 3 months then in December suddenly the keywords started to lose their positions and disappear. This kept dragging and now I am at square one where I only have about 70 keywords only with organic ranking.

My website is about travel visas thus due to the pandemic there was no traffic coming to the website. Additionally, I only created a handful of backlinks manually.

What could have gone wrong to cause this drop? Is it related to the lack of traffic? or something else?

There was some google updates and a lot of sites got hammered in December.

Too many factors...

- Google Updates
- Ranking fluctuations
- Competitors made improvements and so on...

Check your competitors, get some good new content, build some links...

1. Make sure that the pages that were attracting traffic to your site are working fine
2. Compare your website traffic with your competitors'...
3. There was a core update too in Dec 2020 so check if it affected your site negatively.
4. Review your site and backlinks to know if there were any drastic changes.

It is due to December update.

You do not lose ranking due to lack of traffic.

yeah, google update... just keep working on it... research kw again, check competitors, build some hq backlinks, work on your content etc.

The site has maybe just been ctr tested, as you've slowly lost all rankings since a good start. Are you keeping your visitors on site for as long as possible?
If they are clicking back and going back to google search page, that's not good. Is your content good enough to pull buyers in?

Your niche is what's called YMYL

I donno what the real deal is with YMYL, whether only a few buddies are allowed to make $$$ on it....all I know is they manually derank sites in this niche.

Also every travel topic is conflicted on your favorite search engine. For reason$$$.

I stumbled into that fact when I tried to run Ads and the campaign wasn't approved. Upon speaking with the customer service they told me that google no longer allow Ads for visa services despite the fact that other competitors are running Ads as normal!!

Our content is 100% original and was written by a subject matter expert. We have also used SEmrush and Marketmuse to make sure we meet the content requirements for KW density, long tail, etc..

Right now we have decided to improve and update the content however we are afraid it all happens again.

Over optimized? I mean it's not the year 2000 - new pages do have a real hard time get in the index and stay there. So the game isn't that simple to write 100 articles and stick and follow to any stuff like keyword density and so on - really most of those terms and stuff SEO programs telling you are simply crap, which leads to people totally over-optimize their pages. The problem about those tools is simple: They take the top ten results and tell you to pretty much do the same as they do. But that's a fail as if you have a certain authority or a high amount of branded traffic you can do what you want - you rank. But starting 1 year ago you need to keep the ball flat and start slowly and naturally. So you started created 100 articles - written by a professional (you Sure ?) with the exact plan and purpose to rank for the biggest keywords in your niche - that's simply not working like that anymore. Most of the pages we recovered from the December update had serious issues with thin/automated/spun content at no use for the user. Did you hire any link building - check your backlinks - you can PM me your site i can take a check.
And in case your domain is similar with your name.tld - simply your main page title is what not only makes people not click the page + won't google let understand what all is about-
BRAND | your xy to the whole world. BRAND | VISA xy blbla Travel blabla - would be ways better. As well as in case i hit the right page nothing about the text nor the structure (headings h1 h2 h3 are crap - h4 at bottom at the most important text and so on) is professional and I only checked the homepage

I would say it is because the December update. If I were you I would continue the impressive work. You can build more links but combine it with some traffic (for instance MagicSerp). After a while you will see the improvements on those keywords and probably some others will reappear.
