Been doing guest post for one of my money page for 4 months now, did about 90 guest posts, so far. 2 KWs, and both KD around 70.
Got all 2 KWs moved up to the second page of SERP about a month ago, then it just stopped going up. For those 2 KWs, on the first SERP, 6 of them are .gov sites, I know its almost impossible to beat those .gov site.
However, there are three private sites on the first SERP, but by looking their site metrics, I'm not sure should I keep invest to guest post or just give it up. I have attached the domain comparison, My domain is the first one, and you can see the other three. Two of them has over 2M backlinks (almost all do-follow), and over 4K RD.
So what do you guys think? Should I quite or just be patient and keep it going? Anything I can do to take one of those big boy down?

I would quit if I were you. I mean, I would quit trying to rank the keywords you are talking about. Outranking websites with 4k RD, or worse, with 2 million backlinks will take years and 100s of 1000s of money spent on backlinking.... assuming that google thinks your website is better than your competitors to begin with.

But, I'm a mere mortal, only chasing after easy keywords, so what do I know? Wait for other people's inputs

I'm a bit of a newbie on the same path so I have no value to add other than ask if you have tried using keywords with a lower KD? Maybe go for the low hanging fruit?

I think u need to change your approach
and my friend, never quit

Diversify a bit and Change the focus keyword (primary keyword) and expand to long tail keywords.. let the guests post age a bit you might see a boost once they age...
If you are on page 2 for a KD 70 is a solid indicator that your site is gaining authority.

Giving up when you have reached page 2 is putting all your efforts down the drain instead carry out some indepth keyword research and ride on the authority that your website has built up. Good luck

Since there might be a hundred of different reasons to why they rank higher than you, I can assume, if you have good guest posts with diversified anchors links to your site, the other issue can be topical relevance of your website versus the competitors. In a few words, They might have more articles on that topic than you have on your website.

Never quit, never give up mate, try a different approach and see how you can make it work out

Go and sit down with your quit advice. To the OP, keep on pushing. You didn't come all this way to quit. DM me for a quick trick.

Change the focus, work around your keyword to get an authority in the space and then use it all for internal backlinks to that sweet money page

Not sure what niche you are into but here is my advice.
If you are top 10(5 is even better) in those KWs, you are doing well.
Leave them, focus on other KWs, other "ways' for people to find your site.
You are putting all your eggs in a single basket and attempting to only bank on those 2 kws.

It might be worth it if you ever reach #1, but here the three things you should consider
1. if you have .gov sites blocking you, it's very hard to move forward without investing in a whole lot of $ and time.
2. #1 isn't about reaching it, it's about stability, once you hit it, you can lose it as quickly as getting there.
3. If it was that easy to reach and stay at #1, wouldn't everyone be fighting over it & we see google dance everyday?

well, 4 months is a quite short period to rank a website in some medium difficulty keyword,
but that being said, you can just judge this difficulty by gov TLD domains and RD to each of them,
it really depends on the on-page and off-page of these ranking pages,

sure thing that an authoritative website with dozen of thousands of backlinks can be a little hard to be outranked sometimes, but it really depends on the page of such website and how many RD/links are pointed to it

overall, don't panic because the top pages are within .gov sites, they will get a little boost in the SERPs but surely can be outranked by good links

you made it already for the 2nd page (depends on which position here as well, #11 is not as same as #20), but you can make it with some more investment in most of the cases

so, that's why you've put me down. You have something to sell to him. Makes sense...

@DingDing0220 , no matter what everyone will tell you just know that you've picked the wrong keywords if you have to compete with .gov sites and sites with 4k RDs. I mean, if you can build backlinks monthly for 2-3 years straight, and you have 100s of thousands of USD to invest in those backlinks then go ahead and do it, I'm not stopping you. All I'm saying is that you can put food on the table with less struggle and faster than it takes you to rank high competition keywords, despite of any "trick" people will urge to contact them about.

Your call what you want to do, but I would honestly ignore those keywords and focus on something more tangible. But then again, I'm happy earning 2-3k a month, I never aimed to become millionaire

You have no idea of what you are saying. Full stop.
Go and read up. That's not how the algorithm works. And I'm not selling anything to the OP. I wanted to give him a crucial tip but I guess that's the end now. He should listen to you instead.

Don't get confused. within 4 month, your site moves well and also welcome. Try to focus on other keywords and also some real traffic sites. you can't do any improvement regarding gov site. i think better go for some real traffic sites. Don't quit and also quiet. You have to work for the maintaining in the same position.

when I'm right, he should listen to me, yes. Everyone should. You ever beaten authority sites with so many RD and .gov sites in the SERPs without backlinking your brains out? Cause if you have, by all means share that "trick" with all of us! After all, that's why we are all on these forums, answering to people's questions: for help!
