In the past, as someone without a thriving SEO-optimized website, I would rely on leads for business for my website agency. I would scrape business listings within a particular niche, email the businesses, and ask if they would be interested in redesigning their website. I found this tactic was difficult, as my business owners were reluctant to consider anything since it's a regular boring email.

I switched my strategy to instead purchasing a well-designed wordpress page within my niche, writing a script to scrape each client's website for basic business information, and then using it to auto-populate the template with their information and render a mockup of the website. I then emailed clients using these predesigned web pages, and I found an enormous boost in success (2% positive response to 16% positive response).

I have been considering taking it a step further and training a basic ML model, such as a random forest, to identify outdated HTML styles and tags to specifically search for outdated websites, but it is easier at this point to just hire a VA to scour my lists for outdated websites.

I did something similar with bookmark and got an uplift, but not 16%.

Great to hear! One thing I found that helped me so much is that it is better to target niche's that don't have widely available themes, as otherwise the value of seeing your template carries less weight. I started this in Realestate, but I found many leads actually had similar-looking websites. When I changed to niche brick-and-mortar stores such as smoke shops, boutiques, etc, the bar dropped very vast and the interest from people skyrocketed.

That's a great point and one I think I overlooked (2018 when I tried this and the templates were very much in the main niches).

On a side-note, one thing I recommended to someone else, is that if the entire tech side of things is daunting, you can just instead mock up a nice header in Figma and pay a VA to automate the process of inserting company information and rendering mockups. When I was finding my niche, I just mocked them up by hand and hand emailed them, because diving into the tech is a rabbit hole sometimes.
