I know these vary depending on the situation and set-up of your website.
But as a general rule, how do you choose when do backlink to your homepage and when you backlink to your money pages?

when one of your inner pages constantly ranks on page 2 of google (spots 11 to 13) you will want to push it onto page 1 of google, where most of the traffic is. That's when you point a few quality backlinks (guest posts usually) at that particular page and give it 2-3 weeks AFTER the backlinks have been indexed by google to see if your inner page gets pushed onto google's page 1. If it does, cool! You've increased your traffic and (hopefully) revenue.

If it doesn't get pushed to page 1 of google then you either need to point few more backlinks to it and wait again, or give up because the competition is too high.

But generally, you will want to point most backlinks to the homepage to increase the authority (that bogus DA metric that everyone talks about) of your domain so you can increase its monetary value but, more importantly, increase the number of keywords that google will rank you for

We suggest a mix of homepage and inner pages, but there are several factors like age of the site, type of site etc to consider too.

I would go for homepage:subpage 2:8 ratio,
but that really depends on the type of website and link structure and interlinking mainly

Best thing to do is look at your competitors who are above you and see what their ratios are. If you do like them you can't be going too far wrong.

I am no expert yet but it seems to me google prioritise more and more the authority of the domain to rank pages. You can see for example Neil Patel is on the first page for a shit load of keywords, despite the page having not so much backlinks compared to his competitors, because the DA(or whatever you call it) is high, very high.

One thing also that I realised recently is how more and more pages rank high without the target keyword in the title, probably due to google AI understanding intent better, anyone else can confirm this?

that, also I am seeing that the target keyword is NOT in H1 tag.
