Can you grow without spamming?

It's obvious that one of the best methods these days is mother child, but my account is a professional one so my situation is different to some of you trying to sell something or growing a memes page.
It wouldn't look good if hundreds of accounts started sending DM's to other people telling them to follow me.

You don't need to tell them all to "Follow you". You can simply tell them what would be the benefit for them to "Check you out", as your products would fit so much for them (or artworks, or whatever you're showcasing on your account). The fact that you don't DM them twice is also not a spammy method. Either way, you'll need to find a method that show your product to the world, at the end of the day

Of course you can. Here are just a few methods you can grow other than MS.

-Manual/ Automated Engagement - easy to implement but mediumg rowth
- Manual/ DYI Mother/Slave - tricky and expensive but highly rewarding
-Shoutouts - can be cheap or expensive, it can work great in some niches and horribly in others
-Ads. Expensive but you can laser target your audience, not the best choice if you don't have a strong budget

Post viral content. It's probably the easiest way to grow. Just post daily (self created) viral content.. Be creative.

I posted for 30 days straight on my personal page, i got 1 vid with 1.5mil views and a few with 100k-500k views.

PS: when your thoughts are "my niche hasn't got viral potential", then your niche has the most potential to go viral since it is not saturated

You could try ads, automation, engaging posts etc. There are many ways you can influence people to follow you by not telling them to follow you, know what I mean? Try making your content lucrative and target specific people, you ought to see growth without spamming.
