Anybody successfully converted it to bitcoin or USD?
How much do we have to pay for conversion?

after installing the app and looking at the interface, it looks extremely shady. there's barely any functionality. and it's strange to not be able to change wallet addresses without contacting support. as a developer myself, i know how easy it would be to add simple functions like changing your email or wallet, etc, so it seems to be set up this way by design.

so far it looks like a way to collect data on people falling for the dream of making riches for doing no work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i would stay away.

Whaaat? I just bought $50k worth of stuff from Amazon... waiting for the delivery guy, with the scanner in my hand...

A) WTF is packageportal?
B) How do they make money?
C) Why do they give $100 worth of crypto for some stupid scan?
This is what i want to know, sounds too good to be true or there is some catch not mentioned. @jbinkley can you please clarify how this works?

scanned two amazon packages right now, one of them i think the barcode was useless and just a few letters and numbers, on the other package there was a barcode for tracking i scanned and another one under that(you can add 2 scans or more for one package). now i have 3 scans in one day, how is the app knowing that the codes are real? will this get proven by someone, and if yes, do i get any notification that it got accepted or do i just get paid on sunday? did you get 14 PORTs the last two weeks? Whole thing seems very strange, app has no settings or any other menu. you can just scan, see the history log of your scans and the logout button for your wallet, thats it.
maybe @jbinkley can lighten us up a bit more about the whole process

A) https://www.packageportal.com/
B) A big data play. They will sell the huge amount of data they collect from people scanning packages all around the world to the delivery companies (e.g. FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.). Also provides touchless package delivery signature functionality.
C) Was originally going to be just $1 since the token PORT was soft pegged to the USD. $1 was to incentivize people to use the app. Once they unpegged the token, the price went up due to speculation, etc. A certain amount / percentage of PORT tokens have been allocated to reward people scanning packages. PORT can be worth $1, $1mm, or somewhere in between per token, the reward tokens have already been allocated.

It's a way of collecting package delivery data (by Package Portal) to then be bundled and sold to the delivery companies. Also serves as a way to do touchless package delivery (the scan validates the delivery). It was never intended to make people who use the app rich (PackagePortal didn't foresee the rapid rise in PORT price this past month). It's intended to incentivize people to use it who want to see the expanded use of crypto in every day life.

Here is some more information on the company -> https://medium.com/packageportal. I recommend reading their latest article Be Water. This will give you some answers on why the app is very simple/basic currently.

I've installed the app, but it doesn't look legit.
The company isn't mentioned anywhere on the Internet besides their official site and social profiles.
The site is pretty generic and doesn't really explain anything, and the profiles have very few followers, perhaps fake.
I don't think the app is malware, but it could be a scam just to collect peoples data.
If people could really earn $100 per day by simply scanning packages, everyone in the world with basic IT knowledge would order $1 items every day and make a living out of it.

I agree it's strange

"On March 1st, we had a cumulative total of 6,883 scans. As I write this, on March 31st, we now have 270,134 total scans. Thats an increase over 39x in a single month! (We’ll probably hit 40x by the end of today)" Source: https://medium.com/packageportal

If you don't have zil to pay the fee is there another way to proceed to get btc? Or maybe they can keep some of the port we earned instead of zil as fees?

The only way I know of is via the steps I outlined via Zilswap.io where you need ZIL to pay for the swap fees. You can purchase ZIL on Binance. Exchange fees are $1-2.

Do I need to scan I QR code or bar code?

Bar code.

I don't understand you mate,do you mean to keep buying new product and scan the receipt for earnings and is that the only company that offer this ?,

Yes and yes (that I know of)

I downloaded the app scanned to Amazon delivery labels, nothing happened

Don't know what code to type in,

absolutely zero info on the website about scanning Barcodes

what a joke.

probably a scam

Sometimes it takes a few tries to capture the bar code. Move your phone back and forth over the barcode. The app eventually grabs the info.

Hey OP. i've done some research and this does seem legit -- unbelievably so. What type of packages do you scan? do you scan ups deliveries? when i scan ups barcode i don't get the tracking number. should i manually enter it? I've asked them on twitter, but not sure if you have already experienced this.

also, folks, if you have not received your tokens by sunday, you can fill out this form to request -- https://www.packageportal.com/token-tracker

Thanks for providing the additional info! I've scanned FedEx, DHL, UPS, USPS, and Amazon boxes. I scan the bar code and it picks up the tracking number. Just move the scanner around (side to side, up and down, back and forth). The information will eventually be captured.

When I going to swap PORT to ZIL its failing. How to solve this?

View attachment 168002

Need to purchase ZIL (e.g. on Binance) to pay for the transaction ($1-2)

Hello,

May I scan the packages received some weeks go?

Yes

Any ideas on how can I make this work from India?

PackagePortal stopped serving India and Pakistan a couple of weeks ago due to mass fraudulent activity (outlined on their Twitter feed). They are working to bring those two countries back in soon.

I've installed the app, but it doesn't look legit.

Take a look here for some more information https://medium.com/packageportal.

PackagePortal is discussed A LOT in the Zilliqa community since the technology is powered by Zilliqa.

See my reply above that answers the $100 question. Also read the first article PackagePortal in Medium.com -> Be Rain.

100% my alarm bells go off as a too good to be true HOWEVER like anything in crypto the return is high because BTC is high at the moment.. and there is no doubt some pumping going on because of this? Like anything the volatile nature of pricing between each coin as well aids in the price?

I post 50 parcels a day with the type of barcode this thing accepts so I can abuse it like no bodies business. Small parcels cost me £2.84 to print up to 2kg of weight.

I've paid for 10 parcel labels and ill scan one every 24 hours hours.

I don't know what f*cking info you are giving away to them in order to verify anything. The first one I scanned today has been accepted and I've not had to post anything - I added a load of fake info as well the only thing I can see the phone wants access to is camera and location.

I don't know other info is in delivery barcodes - I only just discovered all documents printed can be tracked this week so WTF

I'm running an experiment and the postage is not costing me anything really - as I could even go as far and abuse the service and claim my money back for the postage label as "never sent" ...

I'll report back and see if I do in fact get any pay outs and am able to convert it all to BTC if that all rings true ill post back and let you guys know.

In all honestly the thing doesn't add up unless everyone is still on the ground level. But honestly though something has to be wrong? lol
