Who is a native writer?

i got hit with pms of people claiming to be native writers and i was wondering what your idea of native writer is? what do i look out for when looking for a writers here in BHW?

Born in english speaking country I guess. If you target some certain location you could try getting a writer from there.

If you know some native english writers run a review copy by them. Should help.

Ideally, yes. A non-US writer could still produce good quality articles etc, but probably wouldn't have the same terminology, pronounciations or syntax as someone native to the US. And that can come across when being read by someone from the US. Does that matter? Well, guess that depends of what you want the reader to do, and whether the language would really have an impact on them to that degree.

Not exactly. You can hire any writer who has a good command of English. Even a native writer without a good command of English tends to make many grammatical and other errors.

not true there are plenty of people who can write in english fluently. Fluent and native are entirely different but can produce the same results depending on the people. For instance lots of people migrate to US at a young age, they arent native, but grew up in US public educational system and can likely produce the same results if not better (depending on person) than a native born citizen

I'll answer since I was quoted. My thoughts on this are pretty much the same as above.

I wouldn't claim something I'm not. If you're not native, it doesn't mean you can't write good content. There are some things that will be missing as it's hard to replicate completely that you're not born to understand, but you can come pretty close.

For example, if you write an informational piece of content, people most likely won't care about your spelling, but about the help you provide them. If it's a tough question, they are just happy to get answers. Asking for native writers is kind of like using a sieve, it's more probably to get better content writers filtered, but it also might not happen.

Now I'm just an average idiot, but the same goes with everything else in life as well. You can ask for a painter, but it doesn't mean he'll do a good job. He'll send you the bill thought.

Totally agree...with the samples i was bombarded with, i think these guys really abused the term.

I think native English is kind of over-used to desribe a writer in this forum...Fluent English should be a better description

I think claiming to be a native writer gives an edge, i actually did not read others until after i read the self-claimed native writers. The truth is, i couldnt find much if any difference between the two - native or non-native.
