Taking images from google for my site.

Hey, guys weren't sure where to post this.

I'm making a page for the fitness niche and I need before and after photos.

If a photo is posted all over Pinterest and other websites would you consider it to be safe to use or could I find myself in some copywriter trouble?

What's the worst that could happen?

The worst is to get sued. Another bad aspect, not so important as the first one, is that your site may be penalized.

Better, try to find the right pictures on one of these websites:

pexels.com
thestocks.im
flickr.com/creativecommons
rawpixel.com

You can also do a google image search, then click Search Tools, Usage Rights, Labeled for reuse.

If you have copyrighted images, try to make them unique. Read here

Add pixabay to the list above and use those Sites only it’s a horrible idea to use google images dcma, de index and so on

Unless an image is CC0, or you get permission to use the image on your website, then no it is definitely not safe.

The worst that could happen is a legal dispute seeking compensation for the use of copyright work. If the original owner was for example GettyImages, then prepare yourself for a rather nasty experience.

Thanks for the swift response guys. If a distributor on Alibaba has stolen promotional material from a product they essentially copied could I use those files and pass that liability onto them in the worst-case scenario or would I be fucked?

Don't do that. It's a terrible idea. One of my clients website was using such image file. Probably the guy who Build the website did this. Or the client copied from Google and gave to him. In any case the photographer found out and threatened to sue the client. Then I replaced every image from him site because he didn't know which one was copied image. Remember the owner/photographer of the image are actively looking out for people like you.

But If the images are maybe 20% of the info graphic surrounded by text etc do you think it will be picked up? I might just do that and reverse image search google. I checked out those websites recommended but they don't have what I'm looking for. The images on google are not market for public use but they aren't marked for commercial purposes either. Is there some sort of grey area?

You seems to be having an e-commerce site. You wanna start by searching how e-commerce site are dealing with copyright issues and how are they procuring their images. I mean you can't just use pixabay images, it's not a blog or a company site.

I might take the risk. I will try use images that are posted on many sites and adjust them myself. Let's see what happens, I will let you guys know if I get in trouble lol.

I do it all the time for some of my sites.

Sometimes I’ll put the image through Canva, do a filter, maybe crop a little different, and use it. No software search will ever find you.
