They have lots of issues you can google about them.
Personally I used them once & they didn't allow to transfer the domain bcoz it was bought in promotion deal.

Renewal cost was around $15 for .com

I am also using namesilo for com domains. For me it is the best. If you are looking for a crazy deals - you have to wait till blackfriday.

If you are not going to renew domain name after your first year - than you can chose the cheapest option and start with that. Which provider you will chose - does not really matter.

I buy all the main domains (.com, .net, .org) from Namesilo for years. They have lifetime free privacy protection and the prices are the cheapest. They don't have any promos or deals however. Namecheap is also ok but I would use them for cheap domains like .club or .xyz or whatever.

If I want to get a .com for around $1 that I don't have long term plans then I make a new acc on Godaddy and use fake info for privacy.

I think nowadays the privacy is hidden either way?

Nothing wrong with IONOS, I wouldn't neccessarily choose them for webhosting, but for domain registration it doesn't matter. If you're low on cash right now you can take their $1 deal and transfer to a cheaper registrar like Namecheap or Cloudflare later.
Put a reminder in your calender tho so you don't forget about it

I used virtual CC yes. The one I used was given by my local bank. Haven't tried others.

COM domains are really good for marketing purpose. It is domain name extension which is always use by default. If someone recommend you to visit blackhatworld for lots of useful information you will use blackhatworld.COM to get to the right place. So that domain name extension is very important and useful and I think it is a good idea to have such domain name for your brand.

Do everything in your power to avoid IONOS. They are a nightmare to deal with.
