I want to start an authority site but I get confused on when its okay to talk about more than one topic in blog or when to separate into separate blogs. like for example lets say my niche is "Pet toys" would an authority site have separate pages like one "dog toys" one for "cat toys" etc but all on one site or would you have separate blogs like just one for "dog toys" and a separate blog for "cat toys". I feel like more traffic would be generated by just one big site.

I appreciate any helps

One way is to start in a narrow niche as far as your content and keywords but use a domain that is more generic so as your content, traffic and authority grow you can expand out if your niche.

So target "Siamese cats" and niche down to articles, topics and keywords there.

But instead of the domain Siamese-cat-lover, use cat-lover or even pet-lover.

Then after 100 articles about "Siamese cats" you can start writing about "Persian cats" then cats in general then dogs.

As you expand, put the niche content into silos as categories in a menu.

Same site for everything. Unless you change niche completely.

For example, if you do lots of posts on dog toys, and then cat toys after, this will help you build authority in pet toys.

Become an authority in dog toys, then become an authority in cat toys, then become an authority in hamster toys, ect, and this will help make you an authority in pet toys.
