[JOURNEY] Starting a content/authority site

Hey everyone,

I have made a journey here before, quite a while back but some things came up so i wasn't able to finish it.
So, here is to a fresh start.

I will be trying to make a content site, not super sure how I'm going to monetize it just yet.
Thinking affiliate, ad-sense or something else.

I have bought a domain a month ago, have set up most of the needed plugins and added a theme.
i have hosting for some other things I'm working on so that's been set up.
I currently have a demo sitting on the page before i get some articles on there.

I have chosen a niche, but it is a very broad one for now, in case i want to expand later.

I am interested to see how far i can go using services here from the marketplace, so i will be checking out different offerings, and deciding what works best.
Keen to any feedback throughout the process.

Current plan is to:

1. Get some keywords to rank for. [Currently working on this, mainly] - been a bit of a struggle.
   • Bought a monthly sub for KWfinder, the smallest plan.
   • Have a small list of keywords for amazon affiliate style articles
   • Need to get some "content" basic style keywords to make content for.
2. Get some content to put on the site.
   • Thinking about getting an article each from some of the writers here, should give me enouph to start with.
   • Consider the larger structure of the page and categories
   • Check out the whole silo-ing thing
3. Set up advertising network at some point.
   • Adsense, (and analytics) or other?
4. SEO of some kind? Social networking?
   • On-page SEO will be important, want most of my traffic to be organically from search engines.
   • Maybe check out some services here on the marketplace eventually to help boost the site and some money making content.

I've got other commitments, so I will be working on this periodically,
We'll see how it goes.

Quick update.
- Done some keyword research myself, and bought 3 packages from the marketplace to experiment and give a time boost.
- Ordered 1x1000 word article so far as well.
- Finished setting up analytics

How much are going to invest in your sites before it gives you average income ?

Honestly, not too sure. I would hope to start getting a return on investment, at least slowly, within the first year of the sites operation. Trying to stay under 1-2k for the construction and 1 year set up of the site.
If you don't mind me asking, what would you consider a realistic average income from such an investment?
