I've been playing with sites for around 3-4 year now, specifically focusing on SEO, seeing what works and what doesn't. I've made a site that I've decided to stick with. It's been running for around 9 months now. I aim to get this to $3000 a month at whatever cost.

I do have some other sites, but for the purpose of this Journey I'm only focusing on this one.

I currently write most of the content myself, but sometimes I buy some from my writer. Depends what mood I'm in for the month.

ABOUT THE SITE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I've Done

  • 43 posts (Got an elite plus writer from iwriter to write for elite price only)
  • Designed it myself with Generatepress / My own custom CSS.
  • Planned out keywords
  • Interlinking
  • PBN Renting
  • Some more stuff that I can't remember, feel free to ask anything
What I need to do that I keep resisting

  • Interlink more, and add outbound link. I currently have no outbound links. Linking is my Achilles heel, it gives me suicidal thoughts just thinking about it. I'm a perfectionist so VA's are not an option.
  • Find a colour scheme that increases bounce rate. I've tested a few, and it's unreal how much this affects bounce rate / time on site. I changed my primary from a green to a teal and it tanked,
Traffic Source

My only traffic source is SEO. I do not mess with social media, or any other manual methods that requires constant grunt work. Not worth my time.

Monetizing

I currently monetize with adsense/amazon affiliates. For some reason Adsense boosts my Amazon affiliate earnings, probably subconsciously adds trust to the site having google ads. I resisted doing this for so long because nearly ever case study shows the exact opposite.

My End Game

After reaching $3000 a month, I'm selling it for roughly 36x as per standard evaluation.

Current Earnings For This Site

Adsense = $40-50 per month
Amazon = $30 per month

SEO STRATEGY

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SurferSEO

I currently use SurferSEO to get the onpage right, I firmly believe NLP has a strong place in rankings, and my testing has shown this. Every article I write from now on hits green on everything NLP. I don't perfect it on the first right in terms of other statistics on Surfer, I let it sit and rank. If it gets stuck somewhere on the 1st page, I enter Surfer to optimize every single thing. If my article hits #1, I leave it alone.

Virtual Silo

I can't stress how powerful virtual silos are. I once had a keyword stuck in #6. Wouldn't budge. I added 5 supporting articles at 500 words each and BOOM instant #1 the next day and it's stuck ever since. From what I've seen, the more specific the supporting articles are to the main article, the more powerful it becomes.

I.E For the main article "The best toothbrush" my supporting articles would be about toothbrushes specifically, and not brushing teeth or oral hygiene.

If my main article was "The best electric toothbrush" my supporting articles would be for electric toothbrushes and not standard toothbrushes.

That's what I mean by specific.

Backlinks

Ahhhh backlinks, first thing to note. I'ma tight fk with my money. If I ever buy backlinks from someone, it's because they have me SOLD, and I mean SOLD. I'm the most hesitant guy you will ever see for buying backlinks.

I normally buy one from a service, test it, if it does what I need then they have my loyal custom for a long time.

So who do I currently get backlinks from?

At the moment, just @splishsplash I really wanted to test PBN links as I've never tested them before. I am impressed by their strength in comparison to guest posts.

I have the odd guest post, I essentially email a ton of sites meeting my criteria, see which ones respond with their prices, and then analyse to see which people offer best value for money. Gotta be careful with these though, you'll get your details passed over to others, and random emails flying in from sites you didn't enquire about. They might look good at first, but you can see by spikes in traffic loss that they have been penalised. Or worse, they have no traffic and sellers are catching out the beginners who see DA/DR as the almighty god metric.

Some business citations too, but they were at the start of the site.

Interesting... I'll follow along.

When you say virtual silo and creating specific extra articles around the same topic, what exactly do you mean?

Say as I have (as per your example) - "Best toothbrush". Do you then write articles about "best toothbrush for XYZ" and interlink to the "best toothbrush" article? That just seems like cannibalization to me? It makes more sense to create "oral health" and link it to "best toothbrush", no?

Would be hard to know if cannibalization without doing keyword research. If SERPS for two different keywords show different results, very low risk of cannibalizing. I do keep an eye on this with serprobot though as you can see which URL's are being picked up. If I see two URL's constantly switching for the same keyword then I know cannibalization issue has occurred. First step to that would be manipulating with some internal links. Next would be merging or deleting content.

But to answer your question.

It could be the example you give yes.

Typically for buyer intent main keyword, my supporting articles are informational.

So main keyword: Best toothbrush

Supporting #1: How to use a toothbrush
Supporting #2: How to disinfect a toothbrush

ect ect... basically I'm going for easy to target keywords with my supporting articles that are going to bring traffic in, but still support the main keyword informationally.

what's the search volume for this keyword?

I'll have to check tomorrow when I have access to Ahrefs, but #1 was ranking for around 900 keywords, the primary/secondary keywords which he had ranked in position 1-3 were total of 5000+ search volume. And I basically ripped his article, rewrote and added some extra on ensuring I was hitting the NLP words in it.

Quite excited to see the traffic brought in from this.

Looks interesting and all the best to reach your goal soon! So, what are your monthly average expenses for this site including content writing?

@Dark Sky , let me first tell you I love you xoxo - you've been helping me with my noob questions ever since in the forum and you're one of the funniest guys in the lounge.

I will give this a follow as I'm on the same boat - This is my very first site> 45 articles in total (15 already published, and I publish 3-5 a day at most)

My KW Research for the first 100 articles are all KGR Compliant - this is not my end all by all KW research, but I just put faith to start with getting some traction with this.

I will then move on after this to target higher competitive KW's for Topical Relevance and build Topic Clusters to support my money posts/pages
(what's the difference between money page and money post? Or they just the same?)

I'm also using URL Structured SILO (I want it organized) and Virtual SILO

I will be interlinking after I've published all articles, then go back to KW Research and target topical relevance

Goodluck dear sir xoxo

Thanks! And roughly $200 a month.

$150 for PBN's, $50 for content.

I purchase 1 or 2 articles per month just to add, nothing serious, I've wrote about 40 myself.
