Deleting SOME Content From Site, Then Use It On Another?

Wasn't sure if to post this in Blogging or here but it does have to do with SEO.

I created a site a while back and threw up a bunch of random reviews and content that is not really related to what I have now focused on.

What would be the best way to delete this content from that site but still use that content?

1. Delete the content from the first site, then add it to a new domain/site and redirect all the URLs to the new pages the content now lives on. Will search engines know the URLs for the page have changed keeping the same rankings/juice?

2. Delete the content from old site, wait until they've been deindexed from search engines and then publish the content on the new domain?

3. Is there another method to do this?

The first site doesn't rank all that well but I don't want to just throw away the content. I'd keep the content on the first site but it doesn't really serve the site anymore.

how much content are you talking about? If the content is already ranked then you may be better off just getting new content done up. If the articles were not indexed or have any ranking to them then you could move them over.

I would say out of 30 pages I want to delete/move 17 so just over half.

My plan was to just build an affiliate site but changed it into a service and those articles are not relevant anymore.

I think you are over-thinking this. just delete them from the old site and put them on the new site. I have done this many times, and have never had any issues.

or you can keep the old content and use canonical tag and point it to the new site. you can do this, if you don't want to lose the number of pages on your old site.

Yes, maybe I am. I just dont want to Google ignoring the content if I put it up on the new site. But will try your suggestion and see how it goes, tbh it is not ranking that well so no great loss I guess.

If the content is already indexed then submit deindex request.... once it is done you can make use of it..... if the content is not indexed in the first place... then better create new quality content

I too have done this on my site. I think it is not at all a problem. I too have deleted and added in my new site.

There had been many such threads regarding this. Some says that it will work , some say it will not tank. You can always test and then know. Share the results please.

My recommendation:
If you are able to add or replace some of the non related keywords with some RELATED keywords it'll be so much better. If the articles are completely not related then delete them and reuse them after 4-6 months so that Google could index them as brand new.

Thanks Mike. I will see what I can salvage and then just delete the rest I think. Use them later on a new site.

you are not redirecting. you are just keeping the original page and say it is a duplicate of the new page. no ranking impact of the new page

I agree with this. I have done it 2 times.
