Facebook Marketers How Do You Feel?

After 5 years of Facebook Ads, I'm starting to feel really exhausted from it to the point where I'm considering learning new skill from scratch. Last 5 years i dedicated 90% of my time learning about the ads, about the algorithm, about the changes and adapting to them - spent over $20M for my clients and for some reason I'm starting to feel that all that time is wasted besides the fact that i earned some money along the way.

The fact that I don't fully control my results and the success of the ads is driving me crazy, not to mention random account bans without any reason, countless appeals, dreaming and worrying about the performance of the ads and explaining all that to the client. On top of that platform is just getting worse and I'm starting to lose hope.

Sorry for the rant, however i just wanted to ask fellow FB marketers, what keeps you going and do you have a plan B?

However, I wouldn't be as saddened as you because...

1. PPC is hard to master and once you've done it you've learned one of the most important skills in making money online;
2. you've made money and for many newcomers to the "make money online" industry this remains a dream and nothing more. For example, now, at this very moment, I wish I had your success. having $20 million to spend on PPC knowing that I'd turn a profit - even if it was $5000 a month - is simply out of my reach, so I have to grind, and grind, and grind....

Also, FB is just one paid advertising medium, and there's many others you could try, I have read threads on BHW from people making money with Bing Ads, Revcontent, and many other PPC networks. And since you're already way ahead of others in terms of experience you should look into these other networks as well.... for the sake of diversification and not putting all of your eggs in one basket if not for other reasons.

Has this come about since the iOS 14 mess? My sales had dropped from 8-12 per day to 1-3 per day (same creatives and audiences) - an absolute joke. Verified the domain and everything requested.

The fb bans made me leave the platform. You learn, experiment, spend time and money for weeks-months, and before you know you are banned.

Other platforms are just bland copies of FB/AW in my opinion, I've worked on most of them and if you know FB/Adwords you know pretty much everything else, but from my experience they can be only used as side platforms to compliment your FB/AW results or a way of scaling - still the problem remains, not having full control over your results, headaches & relying on those platforms 100% because if they decide to make any change like FB does right now, you're screwed.

Yeah but my concern is that FB is not gonna be profitable for some industries/business models in upcoming years, and on top of that it's pain in the ass. If you're a beginner I'd suggest going through their blueprint, it's really good to start. It's just a cherry on top of the cake, there is always something with FB - wait untill march/april when everyone moves to iOS 14. It's gonna be real fun and it's just gonna be a beginning

Yeah that's different story, on top of everything they don't let you peacefully stay on the platform even when you're full white hat.

well, yeah, but... name one source of traffic (free or paid, it doesn't matter) that you have control over. Do youtube marketing and all of a sudden and out of the blue youtube might decide that they don't like you or that you've breached their policies. Where's the control in that even if you've done everything by the book? And yes, this does happen. Or go the SEO route and be as white hat as you can, come one core google update and your white hat site is thrown out of the SERPs. And the same with all other big sources of traffic.

That's completely true, I'm just wondering if the stress and anxiety that come with marketing in general is worth it in the long run, i sometimes envy my friends who are developers - that's something in my opinion where you have full control and responsibility, i know it has downsides as well but just the thought of not worrying about stuff that i mentioned so relieving and that makes me consider ditching marketing.

Also, those developer friends of yours might have less stress, but I don't think a web developer can make as much money as an internet marketer / SEOer. So, you need to figure out what your income goal should be... and in the meantime, relax a little. Seriously, go do stuff you used to enjoy as a kid (well, providing that the stuff you enjoyed as a kid is not bullying other kids ), take a well-deserved 1 month vacation (if you can afford it) away from anything internet-related, play with your dog (or get one if you don't already have one, dogs are truly a live, cheap stress relieving cure)... watch a sitcom or two (I recommend Seinfeld), watch a great movie series (I recommend Poirot), if you have kids take them to the park, play football with them (or whatever sport you enjoy).... do any, or all of these without thinking about internet ONCE for a whole month.... you could also watch the Ruth Goodman and Peter Ginn's BBC series on youtube on how to live in the Victorian Era, Tudor's times, Edwardian era, Secrets of the Castle, Tales of the Green Valley, Full Steam Ahead, and WW II farm. All of these series will keep you occupied and deconnected from the stressful life you seem to have at the moment for at least a few weeks, and when you come back to making money online after 1-2 months you will be re-energized and you will immediately know what to do. But the trick is that during this time you should fully disconnect from anything internet-related and never worry if you lose money, clients, anything. Just... let everything go and be curious to see what life has in store for you. Sometimes, these seemingly silly tricks do wonders...

That seems like a good idea, i guess the biggest problem is that i never did that in last 5 years, never disconnected - always attached to my clients, every weekend, every vacation I'll at least check the ads manager once or answer to a concerned client. It became a habit throughout the years and it tends to feel like in prison of your own mind. In order to do that I'd probably have to ditch most of my clients but that's definitely something that I'll consider, thanks for this!

Exactly. The randomness of their bans makes it difficult to set up something that is manageable.
