Imagine if you had a hundred crap computers. Say they'll run [pick your favorite headless linux distro here]. And say electricity and an internet connection are free commodities.

What crypto would you mine with them for the best yields and most value when trading the crypto you mine?

Before anyone says I'm breaking forum rules with a "what if" scenario... I actually have these resources. Just need to implement the network. So I'm looking for suggestions on the best bang for the buck when you're working with headless linux on 10-15yr old equipment ;)

What platforms do you recommend to mine? I also have equipment

Exactly what I'm wondering. I've had a ton of used computer equipment in storage for years, intended to facilitate ventures that never materialized and have since become obsolete. Time to either do something with it, or chuck it out. Mining one of the cheaper cryptos that isn't dominated by asics seems like a better idea than just canning tons of hardware.

I mean... it might NOT be a great idea if electric is an issue. But electric might NOT be an issue. There's a reason I'm asking this question on BHW. :)

I have 5 shitty pc’s that I errr...ahem....errrr...logged into one day and they have been mining monero for me for the past 6 months. I’ve been getting about £2/day for free using moneroocean.stream pool

So I got into monero and have been mining on my laptop for a couple days. Made 2.5 cents so far. Lambo on layaway.

Guessing the best approach here will be to install some custom linux variant, get the mining software running, and proxy all the machines out to a vps which in turn can plug into whatever pool is best. Monero is apparently the most profitable option right now, esp for CPU.

So... good advice. Thank-you.

Have a look at moneroocean.stream
Reason why I use them as part of a pool is it auto switches you between different crypto depending on price and your hash rate, but you still get paid in monero

Ayyy, that's pretty decent beer money for doing nothing at all
