[Journey] Building an iOS & Android App Empire

First of all: Easier to say than to do. I didn't study anything related to this. I prefer freedom over depending on a company, having colleagues and a boss who tells me when I am allowed to go to holiday and when not.

And don't think I am only making $100-150 per day with apps. I am also having many other projects, some of them earn me way more money. By the way: I could scale it up and earn more. Good luck scaling up your salary in a company.

Thats a typical slave mentality and low resolution thinking.

No mate, I am the fucking guy who is going to hire others. I don't get hired.

Well said. I prefer to work for myself instead making others rich

thanks for the insights!
good luck in the upcoming weeks!

about the dangerous countries, i don’t think that it helps to restrict it to specific countries. i would say that those bastards that try to mug you, will use proxies/vpns to grt rid of your apps, as you are hurting their results. they might do that with everybody not just you.

just a question about your start. what are thr most important ways/channels how to get quality users to try your apps? (besides of paid ads)

Update:

I just added my Admob to Appodeal, like I explained before: This is how I do it now:

Tier 1 & some Tier 2 countries = Admob
Tier 2, Tier 3 + High risk countries = FAN & Unity Ads

What are high-risk countries? Those countries where my competition is from mainly. In my case it is: Mostly Thailand, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh

The app is not available in those countries anyway.

And here are some insights for you guys. This is ONE app I uploaded three weeks ago. I was driving targeted traffic through social media and paid ads (adwords)

Here are the WORLDWIDE earnings in the last 7 days. Interstitials and Banners:
View attachment 162859

Here are the earnings from ONLY EUROPE + NORTH AMERICA:

View attachment 162860

$21 eCPM. 95% of the earnings are just from those two continents.

Now you can think by yourself: Is it actually worth it to risk your app and AdMob account for Tier 3 countries? In my opinion, no. Just imagine this: Earnings $1 per day from Thailand or India and having a high risk of getting reported or click bombed, then limited for "invalid traffic".

So yes, make sure you targeting Tier 1 high paying countries.

Now let me give you one more insight into my Adwords account:

View attachment 162862

What can you see here? I target only those Tier 1 countries for app downloads.
My daily budget: 5€
Conversions = App installs
Costs per install average = 0.07€ so around $0.085

btw. important to note: The CPI costs depend on your niche, the conversation rate, etc. don't think just because I pay 0.08$ per install you will only pay this as well. It really depends.

I will double the daily budget now and then compare it to the FAN earnings.

It actually helps me a lot. Turns out the NUMBER 1 reason my apps got removed was the competition. Some kiddos mass reporting apps...and guess what? It works because Google (unlike Apple) is not protecting the developers. There is a huge quality problem in the Play Store. Its flooded with low-quality apps and unethical developers.

Well, I try to rank the apps on the PlayStore so I get targeted users. Only people, which really want to use the app and searched for it.

Here are some current stats:

Daily earnings: $130-200
Daily costs for installs $20
Count of apps: 7x Android, 8x iOS
Adnetworks in use: Google Admob, Facebook Audience Network, Unity ads

Just uploaded another iOS app. The niche looks promising, let's see how it goes. I only use Google Admob for monetizing it (for now).

What's next?

At the moment I am working on a Flutter app, which will be available in 10 different languages for iOS and Android. Kinda big project. My biggest so far. I will also make a fitting website for it.

Btw. here is what happened a few days ago:

Looks like one app went viral in a country. For some time it also went to the Top 5.

This app got almost 200k downloads in total:

Breaking News:

Admob limited the account again. LOL. It is so ridiculous. Btw. I used Admob with Appodeal mediation because I don't want to update every single app. So it is much easier to simply put an on and off switch to activate whatever network you want. Maybe Appodeal could be the reason it has been limited? The traffic I got on the apps was all organic and a few paid ads (Adwords) like I outlined above. Never clicked on my own ads, never watched my own ads, never opened my own ads.

Is it the same account that gat ads limit before?

BTW, which store gives you more revenue, GG Play or AppStore?

Yes, they removed the limit and two weeks later added it again...wtf

Difficult to say...it depends way more on the location of your users...also depends on the ad network. I feel the fill rate for iOS on FAN is quite low. Around 70%, while for Android it is 85-90%..so the earnings are also higher

Hey bro,

Did you see their last email. They’re putting limits on every new app you’ll publish until you provide the link of that app on the store, and they review it and approve it!

Yes, I just saw it.

Well, really no idea what to think of this. If this prevents the admob account to get limit, then fine. I think it will cause a lot of headache. FAN is actually doing this already and sometimes people get this 4.1 policy reject.

So...the best way to deal with this is to add mediation instead of only admob...

Google is at it again. They suspended an app for "Deceptive Behavior" and the biggest joke of all time is: They just attached a screenshot of the menu of the app. I mean this is some moronic bullshit right here. What are they actually thinking? They attach a random screenshot and make a random assumption. And just to say it: The app got nothing to do with dishonest behavior or deceiving users or anything like this. Wtf?

And guys: A few months ago they removed one app and called it "hacking" when I had an outgoing link in the app, which would open the browser. The targeted website didn't contain any links itself, just text, no advertising or affiliate or anything.

Now you see: If they want to find a reason to remove your app, they will find a reason. You have no chance. They just come up with a random assumption and remove your app. I just don't understand their strategy. Why are they doing this? Who is doing this? There is no one you can complain to. No manager or someone where you can say "Wtf, look what did your employee do." No, you don't even know the names of the people who decided to take down your app for a ridiculous reason.

And yes, I sent an appeal. Lets see how it goes.

So what to do next? I will reskin and reupload this app twice. Simple as that. For every app, they remove I will upload two more.

Yes, but no answer so far

Update:

- Uploaded two apps (versions of the one that got removed a few days ago)
- Google didn't reply to the appeal
- Still making around $100-150 per day using three ad networks (Applovin, FAN and Unity)

- Admob account is still limited, however, they sent me the payout
- FAN and Unity also sent the payout

In general, I would say: I never had any problem with Facebook Audience Network. Even if I had to make an appeal (happened two times) they replied within a couple of hours and accepted. They never limited the account or anything else.

So, you have to decide by yourself: Do you want a 100% fill rate, a higher ECPM, BUT the constant risk to get your account limited and in the worst-case suspended without getting the payout? Or do you want an 80-90% fill rate a bit lower ECPM but you can be sure you will not get limited and you will receive the payment.

Good luck bro. I have a question. I have an Unity based puzzle game in Google Play and facing the "Admob limiting problem" like everyone :( So i am looking for alternative platforms, which mediation platform do you suggest ? For ex: Appodeal, ironsource, mobup etc.. (downloads especially from arabic and tier 3 countries but i will make advertisement for tier 1 countries if i solve the problem)

how do you promote the apps? do you use facebook/google ads?

Yes, I prefer Google ads. I will try Facebook ads once again soon. Didn't have many good results with Facebook ads before. Additionally I am doing ASO (store optimization to rank for keywords) and getting organic traffic through Facebook pages/groups and also websites.

Yes, mediation is a great way to get a high fill rate. Also, you have the bonus once Admob removes the limit you can just add them to the mediation within a couple of minutes. Total flexibility.

At the moment I am using Appodeal, but I am thinking about switching to the Admob mediation soon. Through the mediation I am running Unity ads (which are quite good if you are in the gaming niche!), Facebook Audience Network and Applovin (I use them only for high paying interstitials and for Banner ads)
