looking at buying my first not fresh domain came across one in a popular niche they are asking $1200 for it I just don't know if its worth the price as I'm new to buying expired domains and i heard godaddy and esibot values are way off. based on the free version of ahrefs backlink checker it shows domain rating of 54 (moz only shows 38), 163k backlinks 45% do follow, 2100 RD 73% do follow .
any accurate domain value estimator?

There is no automatic domain estimator that can give you even remotely close value to the real one.
The metrics of this domain looks OKish, however you have to check if the backlinks are good - see if there are big news medias (BBC, Guardian, USA today and so on), also 45% ******** backlinks looks kinda low - check if there are plenty WEB 2.0 links/comment links and other cheap/free crap links, and if you see many Google properties links - this is a scam and stay the fuck away from this seller. The value of this domains comes from their links - so examine the links carefully before considering buying such domain.

Check backlink profile manually, Check the history, Check spam score, Check metrics. That's how you will see it is worth it or not.

A secret trick for domain appraisal that all the best appraisers use OP is this:
Step 1: if the domain is .com start with the number "10", if it's anything else start with the number "5" unless it's extension is .xyz and then start with the number "20"
Step 2: get the starting number, and for each letter in the domain name, multiply the starting number by 2.
ie. weasels.com would be 10 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 = $640 is the accurate value of that domain. Simple yet effective.
(I accept tips in BTC for my advice.)

newcomer??? Been doing SEO since 2008, but that doesn't mean that I'm up-to-date with every meaningless detail in the bottomless niche that is SEO.
This being said, who says that .xyz is the new best thing? I don't give a crap about their opinion either way, and I'll stick to trusting .com more than anything else. I was just curious who invented this abomination, that's all.
Still, thanks for the semi-explanation (you didn't explain where the trustiness comes from, you only said what you believe the next best thing will be)

My guess (although I can't be sure) is that .xyz has become more trustworthy than .com because it's easier to spell, so it is more accessible to all people, not just people from T1 countries.
Also there is a lot of historic significance of the combination of the letters "x", "y", and "z", and it seems to have repeated over and over, even before the internet.
For sure though the first point is more significant than the second one though.. the impact of easier to spell tlds can't be overstated imho.

I don't know, man, I still trust .com more. It's honestly the first time I'm hearing someone (you) saying how xyz is the next best thing in domaining. I still say that you are wrong and that xyz will never catch on, but... we will see...

Well there are no authentic automatic domain valuators. They are rough calculations. The real price is offered by the buyer who factors the suitability of domain to their brand, traffic potential or already existing seo value in domian.

Thanks no big news sites but a good amount of links from sites in related niche with high DA 80-94 the domain is also 8 years old. i will look deeper into links
