Getting one million users (or dollars) with my app!

Sounds interesting !
I guess you should really focus on small influencers (1000 - 2000 followers). Most of them are people like you and me who might want to be help.
Will follow your journey man !

Contact some gamers on youtube that are not that famous but still have a nice subscribers base and ask them to promote your app for a reasonable fee.
Or go for youtube ads targeting those guys (is not that expensive).
If you don't have the cash to go big, find a partner that can fund you (one million leaves a lot of room to share a piece).

I've though of another one - YouTube meme compilation channels -
Could you tell me an example? Because I am not sure about what do you mean on those.

Small influencers: How can I find those? If i search, I usually find the big ones... should I go to page 248 of the results and reach out to those people?

Not that famous gamers: How can I find those?

- Google Adwords for installs
- Facebook / Instagram ads for branding / downloads
- TikTok ads (just make sure you are not targeting the children)
- Influencer marketing (can work wonders)
Yes, I will certainly try these, and yes, children are not my target audience for this game. :-D

TODAY:
It's Sunday, so I am going to rest, doing nothing...

INSTALLS: 72 on iOS and 52 on Android.
PROFIT: :D:weep::poop:

Progress:

1.) As I was randomly DMing people on Instagram, I accidentally reached out to a small card game influencer (2000 followers on insta), and she replied. She will try my game! I followed up on the message, telling her that I could also give her a shoutout if she mentions me in her podcast or instagram. Let's see...

2.) I've spammed the s*it out of Indiehackers, (commented something relevant on every topic, and included my promo).
It got me some engagement, but the return of investment is not good enough, so I will leave them alone.
They were not my target audience anyway.

Did you make a keyword research and do proper ASO?

Did you make a keyword research and do proper ASO?

No really, and here is why (long story, my short answer is at the end):

My game is ment to be a drinking game. The original graphics (still visible on the website) was about drinking... unfortunately apple changes their "guidelines" and they don't allow drinking games anymore to the appstore. So I had to change the gameplay, the content, the illustrations, the metadata of the app, everything. It took me 2 months (iterating and submitting new version almost every other day) to finally get my game approved, because these assholes did not tell me exactly what is wrong, they just rejected the app and sent a default message, saying: Sorry, but your game is dangerous, causes pysical harm to the users because it's a drinking game, encouraging excess alcohol consumption.

I was arguing with them, thay according to their rules, encouraging alcohol consumption is allowed, but the excess amount is the problematic so I've put a warning screen saying that please drink responsibly, etc. But it was good enough for them. Then I had to remove the words alcohol, drink, etc. Still not good enough... then I changed and removed illustrations... still not good enough. At the end, they rejected my game because in the app's logo a character was holding a red cup. After changing even that, they rejected the game becuase in the search keywords in the appstore metadata Ihad the "drinking game" as keyword. (and this was just a short list of changes... as I said, it took me 2 months submitting new versions every other day, because they never told what was wrong, I just had to guess what is still wrong)

Anyhow, I managed to push the game trough the app review, and now it's in the app store, but the iOS version of the app is missing a lot of content, illustration, even features compard to the "uncensored" Android version, because Google accepts the fact that users (except Apple users) are not that stupid to get alcohol posioning because of an app that say "You've lost, have a drink".

And here comes my answer to you:
Asshole Apple is NOT removing the earlier approved drinking games from the app store, they just don't allow new games there. That means, if you go right now and search for "drinking, drinking game, party game" you will find hundres of apps straight up telling you to drink, with content and illustration that is not allowed anymore. These apps have an unfair advantage, they rank for keywords that I can't even have in my metadata. If I just mention "drinking" or "drinking game" in the app description or keywords, they reject my app from the Appstore.

However...
My plan is not to reply on ASO, but to become a household name, like Tinder. When people search for a dating app, they don't go to the Appstore and search for "app that gets me laid" they know that they should search for "Tinder". That is my goal. I want people to search for my app's name, because it's the best party game ever.

But...
Earlier I was doing SEO so I used my (little bit rusty) skills to to the same with the app. I used the proper keywords everywhere in the metadata, but I am not an ASO expert.

Thats a big problem with Apple from my experience. They are really trying to influence the developer and the apps. Like basically these reviewers are telling you what to do with your app.

One situation that helps is:
Remove the app completely, give it another bundlename and reupload it as a complete different app. You will get another person who is going to review the app.

Like this whole shit with the reviews ONLY depends on the person who is reviewing it. Some people don't care. Some are totally sensitive.

For example I had an App and updated it three times without any problems. On the fourth update the review told me to change the App Logo and Screenshots, otherwise it won't get approved. Wtf? It didn't seem to be a problem when I launched the app and updated it three times.

Just as you said, later that could bite me in the ass at the next update, when I get someone else reviewing it. So I just leave it as it is.

Seems that you found the first one.
I guess it's a bit long to find those influencers (actually, they're not really influencers. I have almost 1000 followers on Instagram but all of these persons are friends or friends's friends, but I'm not considering myself as an influencer. So my "audience" is really close to me and open to new things such as a new game I play or a new effects pedal for guitar I bought by example).

To find those micro-influencers, you should focus on big ones and look at the people who interact with their content (comments, follow, likes... on the latest posts) or you could check some platforms like getfluence.com but they might take a commission.
Wish you the best !

Interesting in this journey! good luck mate!

Not that famous gamers: How can I find those?
Try these in the Youtube search bar: gameplay, mobile gameplay, mobile game review etc.

Filter results to show videos uploaded in the last few days or week.

Contact the guys who have 5k-10k+ views

I will try next week and let you guys know how did it go!

I realised that mobile game reviewers are not my target, because they usually play single player (or online) recording the phone's screen. My game is te opposite... there is barely anything happening on the screen and you need a bunch of people pysically present, that the mobile game reviewers don't have, neither the equipment to record.

So today I have collected 150 youtube, 17 instagram and 33 twitter influencers in the card/board game niche. On tiktok I could not find any board/card game reviewers other than shops that promote the products they sell.

As I see youtube channels with 2-3000 subscribers barely have any views. I guess because the views are o coming from their subscribers, it's the opposite: When someone searches for the game review/gameplay they might sumble upon the channel's video. Since my game is not known yet, I am not expecting anyone searching for it. Anyhow, I will reach out to these small influencers and see if they are willing to review my game.

Since my game is fun AF, I might also reach out to general podcasts, vloggers, because they might review/try the game just for fun, read some of the obscene senteces or hilarious situations and questions. Their followers might start searching for the game, generating traffic for the other review videos on youtube.

After collecting potential influencers, I started reaching out to them...
Well, it's not that easy. Many of them don't have proper contact information (email) or any way to reach them.
Anyhow, I mesaged as many as possible or left a comment if there was no other way to reach them.
While I am waiting for their replies, I started working on some social media automation strategy to grow the number my followers.

No so fun fact:
Apple only allows me to give away 100 promo codes (to have the premium features of the app for free) so I can't give a promo code to every influencer that I contact, because I simply don't have enough.

You can pay them a bit extra to purchase it, it will also drive up your sales.

Good to see that you have set target of 1 year which can be good enough to get these many downloads.
