I mean is it really dead ? someone says "its contribution to seo is so little so you dont have to waste your time" But there is big edu and gov sites and they da and pa is around 80-90 (I know there is hundreds of comments in each page so it can be spammy backlink a bit). Do you think taking comment backlink from this big sites can do a work for seo?

That's fine, just clicking on it is OK.

the best use for comments in my opinion is if you can find popular sites in your niche, which have 1000s of visitors per day and you are allowed to comment (with a link) on new posts before other people comment. This way your comment stays at top and if it's good enough (engaging, annoying, insightful, or any combination of these) people will click on your link, giving you lots of free traffic in the long run.

Even if you're not the first commenter but in the first 10-15 comments made on that page it still matters as long as you are allowed to link back to your site.

This is when comments matter. SEO-wise they still carry some juice, albeit not as much as they used to carry 10 years ago. But the free traffic aspect is what you should be after, but.... it's not easy to find such sites nowadays that are heavily traffic-ed and which allow hyperlinked comments. I mean, it's not easy if you do it manually, because I'm sure that Scrapebox and other tools like that can find these websites, but whoever is doing this is probably keeping the discoveries for themselves

If done manually, these can be great to diversity your links especially anchors and nofollow ratio. They can also give you short term traffic.

Thanks for the tips. Its really hard to find good site for comment even with scrapebox. But its good to know that its still working.

Backlinks for SEO? It is 2021 and any link that you can get easily without paying is pretty useless for SEO. Yes, they are good if you are looking for relevant traffic. Find blogs in your niches that allow comments. Find blogs from top and popular bloggers, not just any blog, else you will be wasting your precious time.

only get comment backlinks from sites that get approved comments. so run away from the edu and gov sites that you found since they have lots of comments, which I am pretty sure not moderated. the only benefit from this site, if you use it as tier 3+ backlink.

also, you get more benefit when comment backlinks are from related niche.

They can be still good if you do them properly. Getting a backlink from a page which already have hundreds of outgoing links is never recommended. You should find relevant posts and then do commenting on them and your comment should add some value to the readers as well. It shouldn't be pre-written or just saying your post is awesome, thanks for sharing, please visit my website etc.

No, not really, no one in their right mind won't approve your comment with the backlink.

Have you tried it. I have personal experience of making such comments and many of them got approved. You don't expect all your comments to be approved by the blog/website owner but if you do it correctly you will end up with some live comments with backlinks.

I'm on the other end - getting comments like those on my sites.

You have the choice whether you approve comments on your website/blog or not. Some people remove the links and just publish the comments, some people don't approve anything at all and some approve comments with links as well.

What's the point of having approved comments w/o backlink? You wasted time? From spammer's POV.
I just don't approve any comment with spammy backlinks.

If comment is related to article there is no reason to deny that comment. Its the nofollow link at last and doesnt affect to the site authority.

Commenters get backlink and website gaining a post related, quality comment. Its look like a win win situation.

Comment links doesn't affect your authority. They are best to drive traffic and placing good comments on places where there's a lot of traffic helps you to drive traffic to your own website. It still works in many popular platforms.

Commenting with a backlink on a popular site having a similar niche as your blog will help you to get many benefits. Not all the site owner will approve your comment a backlink but if your comment is adding some value to his reader then there is some possibility. Once your comment is approved you will get benefits in the long run for sure.

Use it as a BRAND BUILDING or pre-OUTREACH "here's who I am" type of opportunity

Post relevant and USEFUL comments

Draw people to your site based on how VALUABLE your comment is

Once other bloggers/influencers see you're LEGIT, they are more likely to LINK TO YOU

Otherwise, comments on most WP blogs are WORTHLESS from an SEO standpoint since they are NOFOLLOW (unless adjusted by the blog owner)
