Questions about PBNs

I've just started to look into PBN's and I found some domain names to buy. Some of the domains I put down on my list were real businesses. If I bought the domain of a real business, do you have to recreate a brand new business brand or is it ok to have their old website up but then link to yours?

If they have links from websites like huffingtonpost/entrepreneur/buzzfeed etc, what is the chance of those news websites changing the links over?

Changing the brand is really hard and sometimes can cause Google penalty, so my recommendation is keep the brand of old websites.
And also, I recommend not to change those old links the domains have got.

Big brand newspapers hardly ever change a link if it is up, so if you buy the domain and the link is still there, there will be no reason for them to change it. They have thousands of articles with multiple links, it would be a lot of work to go through links and see which of the websites are dead. But the link juice that passes won't be as noticeable as you might think.

Both approaches are completel viable. You can either recreate the old content (rarely might lead to possible copyright issues) or post new articles with (ideally) retained URL structure.

Chances of those sites changing articles anytime soon are pretty small.

Expired domains are of many types. It depends on a lot of factors, like how much they have been dropped, the type of backlink profile, and others. If the domain has been dropped for a lot of time, the power of the links will be a lot lower, and I have tested it myself. A forbes link, when received through a long expired domain, will give almost no link juice

Because those websites have millions of pages and the pages that link to your site are buried so they barely have any link juice to pass.

I wouldn't bother with the brand just use the website to link to yours.

Big sites probably won't remove your link, to decrease the chance even further, re-create those pages they link to with new original content so when they visit the page by any chance it will be populated.

Recreating the same website should work. Trying to create a new website will notify the web masters and it will eventually affect your website. Having backlinks from sites is a great benefit and some will change over time and some will not. However, it's a great benefit.

Wow. So you would have to buy them at auction before they are completely expired and available to pick up in the normal way (i.e. going to Namecheap/Godaddy and typing in the URL that you want to buy on the front page) right?

Where do you normally like getting these domains from? Are there any reputable websites that you like to use?

I don't really deal with expired domains... I buy brandable domains.
There are some knowledgeable people here on BHW who know much more than me about expired domains, people like tiiberius.
But I know from experience that a link from sites like huff post won't do magic.

It is 2021 and I am sure Google algo has changed a lot. Why are you guys still using PBNs? Does they still work?

A lot of people say they still work very well if implemented properly.

see i never understood the answers some people give, say the site is expired or in auction, someone else buys, now why would that new person keep the old brands surely they would have their own business over the site, if you had manual checks, that's what they would look for.

So my advise is act as natural as you can, you just took out a lease on a shop, do you keep the branding of the previous company or make your own.

I am extremely noob in this context, i am just going with logic and what i would look for if i was doing manual checks.
