So I have set up my blog + 4-5 starting articles but I have 0 backlinks. The website is submitted to google search console and indexed but doesn't show in results for my keywords at all.
How do I continue? Do I start building backlinks or no backlinks and just focus on articles? And if so what are some free good backlinks I can start building myself for free, to begin with?

If you don't know where to start, first make the social media accounts for your websites. This will both bring some traffic and make the website relevant for Google. Then you can move to other kinds of backlinks.

If you want to improve your KW position, you need to build links to your site...Free links will trigger only spam score. Just start building backlink with zero spam score in SEO-Link building which fits your budget..

If it’s a new site you can start building one or two links daily, Web 2.0, guest posts and all but take it slow don’t rush with it, and in meantime do write content too

With so many blogs out there you think it's enough to write 4 articles and expect everything that comes only with hard work?

My man , none said I want to get to the first page with what I've done so far or something, I am just asking advice on how to start doing the work. Stop being aggressive and judgmental and reply only if you have something helpful to say otherwise don't. Damn ..

If your website is new, then Google may not recognise your website. Do SEO research, on your website to bring your ranking top. Using backlinks are preferred and also pay attention to your keywords as well.

Hello

You have to write more content after doing thorough keywords research. You have to make backlinks along with that. Start from free lists easily available on the internet.

Thanks

@kleoz If your site is only one month old, the best thing that you can do is continue to build content. I have a new site that is barely 2 months old and with over 5000 products and over 10k words of content, it is still not ranking on the first page for anything.

Dare I say that this is normal, but it is. Google is trying to figure out if it can trust your site first and it won't let it's foot up from your site for at least 3-4 months. New sites are the worst because they take some time before you see rankings.

Keep building content in the meantime. Build up / out your social media channels. You can always pay for ads through Bing / Google or other social media platforms to get instant traffic. I would also go after guest posts as well. You also may want to think about a press release. There are options for instant traffic but as for "organic" traffic, that's going to take a while whether you like it or not.

We don't control the asset that is Google so we simply have to deal with it's rules and when it decides to play nice with our websites that we're building ourselves. Use this time to grow your site. Traffic and rankings will come, but you're going to have to be patient because that's how this works.

You need to enrich your site with keyword friendly contents first. Google looks for reliability too while ranking. Even if you get backlinks right away, google won't find anything based on what it can rely a site that's only 1 month old. You should do a decent on-page first, then you are free to go for link building. Hope you got the point.

Sorry man, I guess I saw something else. In that case, visit other blogs in your niche and look for topics that are coming up repeatedly. Those are great topics for you to create content that will target those other bloggers in your niche. Also while doing that, try to find blogs on that topic that will be a good fit for reach out. When you have a topic and a list of blogs it's time to create awesome in-depth content and before you publish it reach out to those blogs you found and ask them to take a look and ask for feedback. Don't send your link in the first email. Ask for permission to send it. The last thing to do is to incorporate any given feedback into your content and publish it. Then notify those who gave you feedback that the post is live. Another thing you can do is to write a post like 50 best running blogs and create an embeddable badge which you'll send to all blogs from your post. If someone embeds it you get backlink.

You have a long way to go before seeing any tangible results. You need more content. Links will follow. If you need a little push then seek out guest posting opportunities using Google.

Thanks all for the replies, I have indeed focused on getting some good content on the website first and then i will start worrying about backlinks. One question that popups up how many articles/posts etc are considered optimal to start building links?

There isn't any optimal number. You should promote every post you publish, don't wait until you get x number of posts. My suggestion is to publish one post every two or three weeks and spend the time between publishing promoting your content.

Avoid any backlink that can easily be created. Find extraordinary sites in your niche that are linking to smaller sites. They could be sites that accept guest posts, sites that provide lists or the content curation sites.

You should write one article that provides extremely helpful information which is far better than any other site. For example, if your niche is keto diet, then write a case study that provides a diet plan based on 10-20 real people using their social media posts, youtube journeys or blog posts. The thumb rule is to avoid any benefits like ads or affiliate links. This will make people trust your content and other sites to link to your content as a source of trustworthy information.

You will have to do both. Keep adding quality content and start link building.
Also take care of onsite SEO too.

For a site quality contents which are unique is also very important. You can enrich your site by quality keywords.

And also, for new site you can build backlinks. If the links does not have an any backlinks then it will increase only spam score. So you can start building backlink with zero spam score in SEO-Link building.

You can focus on both.
