how long does it take to learn code to an extent where I can build things solo?

It depends by your learning level, how fast dou you learn, if you have experience some experience with programming maybe from school.
If you start from 0 and you don't want to hire anyone to help you with your project, you will need to learn front-end and backend programming and a bit of linux (for video processing aka encoding setup).
The fastest track is to learn html/css, then bootstrap, then javascript, then php and starting with vimeo for video encoding, hosting and DRM player

Look at bubble. It's a code simplifier where you can assemble already pre-written modules to accomplish what you need. There's a whole developer and support group built around it. Udemy has a class on it.

Within a few months of hard work, i might also hope to be able to learn something. Coding can be very tough ..

First of all,
I usually don't support the idea of reading for months like you are preparing for an exam. And after that, you try to build something... I don't encourage it.

What I will advice is you start with the basics. And you build as you learn.

For Example:
- If you know HTML already, start designing your UI...
- When you get to developing the login page for example, start the process of learning the basics of a backend tech. After the basics, fast forward to how to connect to databases in your selected language... (This is how I do it)
- Each time you come across an issue, research about that issue in your selected language.

You will realize that with time, you'll need to do less and less research.

This is how I learn new languages on the go. I feel it saves a lot of time compared to simply reading an entire programming book and trying out their samples... That will help but it will be really slow

Watch some web coding bootcamp on udemy and start with a simple project like a simple calculator or something like that.
The most important thing is to see if you like it at all.

It will not take you 12 years. It won't even take you 1 year.

Learning to make a website.

If you're going to learn programming from scratch I'd say it will take around 3 months to get the basics of programming.

Loops, If statements etc etc.

Once you learn the basics, you can adapt and pick up any programming language very fast- they are all almost the same.

For example. I had a Python, C++ background.

It took me around 2 months to learn Javascript and be able to at least put together both backend and frontend in JS.

It took a further 3 months to perfect it. Bare in mind I was coding almost everyday at this point building a project.

Now for complex AR stuff you're talking about, that takes time to perfect. Even I have trouble sometimes handling things like 3D Objects etc.

It will not take you 12 years but it will take alot of time and learning.

At most it will take you 6-7 (intensive) months to learn to make a quality website with a good clean codebase.

Depends how much time a day you’re going to devote if it’s hours maybe 3-5 months given you know what to study.

I’d say a year if it’s anything less

I learned in about 4 months of 10+ Hour days only taking Sundays off

you can do everything with JS now, so I’d suggest that plus they have react which makes web and mobile apps much much easier

start off with the basics and check out the easy coding challenges on leetcode do at least one a day (if you can’t find a solution after an hour read the solution and learn from it)

then you can dabble with jquery if you want to learn how to manipulate the dom, and integrate css (you don’t really have to though)

then check out the back end (node) learn to use express and work with API’s

afterwards choose a database. Mongodb or a RDB like MySQL and just learn how to store data. Storing data is the key but you can just learn the basics then optimize as you continue to learn when building your website

then finally learn a framework like react, and choose a state management with that like redux Or recoil( I prefer recoil)

this is the order that I learned but you can learn react right after you learn the basics of JavaScript so you can actually see websites being made

furthermore you can slowly build on your website idea but I found it’s easier to start small. Start with a good ol to do list, then customize it. Then maybe make a budget tracker app, then start working with APIs and build a website with an api like covid statistics or use a food api to build an app to track your calories.
