.COM or special TLDs? what would you choose?

I will give some examples and ask you, if it woulf make a big difference

If I want to target the keyword "financial services" would it make a big difference if I chose "financialservices.com" vs. "financial.services"

or if I target "sex shop", would it make a difference if I chose "sexshop.com" or "sex.shop"?

Which one do you think is better, and if it's the .com, do you think it would be worth the tremendously higher price?

Domain name itself does not help SEO at all. Domain name should be catchy and short so more people can remember that. COM is better, because that is used by default. Like we say: "check on microsoft web site" and what we do is type in microsoft.com. Apple.com is a brand name, but it has nothing to do with apples (fruits).
Content is a king for SEO, not domain name.

The majority of your portfolio should be .com, but you can branch out and test and test the waters. That's what I've been trying with a couple of new TLD's

Its only a matter of time before we see and get used to using many more. Look at .IO which is now trusted for good sources and products.
