Say I have a KW I want to rank for on, let's say, Youtube.

I buy a .com domain with the keyword I want to rank for, and I embed my video on there. That's all I do.
Would that work? I guess I could post a few blog posts.

I don't think it would be enough for any niche to just embed a video and hope to rank for that keyword.
Just because your domain is an exact match you won't rank all of a sudden.

Raking a domain is different from ranking video,you need a good blog post and some meta tags and also site SEO to rank such video using blogging or website.

So you hope to get views through organic traffic on Google (Google -> Website -> Video)?
Unless you're able to rank the website with a different method, it won't help you just bc your domain is the same.

Yeah, I think that's what I hope happens.
If it gets 100k+ monthly searches, someone's bound to try to do "keyword".com - and with a auto-play on my video, I could bring views in this way, but they probably wouldn't stick for too long.

I mean you can try. The domain itself should be really cheap to buy so not much to lose.

Yeah, bought domain & a month of hosting just to check. About $16 or so. No harm in writing posts yourself

Sadly, exact match keyword domains don't have an SEO advantage anymore

As far as your plan goes, you're better off using a BRANDABLE domain and have it redirect to your YT Channel

Focus your video SEO on your videos instead

You have a website, you have a .com domain and you expect to get ranked with just videos. No, not at all. With only videos and images, Google will further decrease your position to the last pages where you will struggle to get a single visitor.

To rank in Google, content is king. With videos and images, you have to write useful blogs with the proper topic and keyword research. For videos only, Youtube is the right place, not Google.
