I'm looking for SEO tool that's most to my taste. This week I've been playing around with ubersuggest and google keywords planner and noticed that ubersuggest might give out something as easy to rank while google tool says its high competition. What am I missing here? I've been planning to check out ahrefs as well next week, is it more accurate for keywords research? At least from forum search it's pretty popular here.

If we are talking about Search Volume - Keyword Planner is a good source.
But competition is a metric there mostly depends on adverisement activity for this keywords, and estimates for each keyword. If the avg. bid for the keyword will be high it's almost always will show high competition. In adwords you compete with others adverts. I SEO you compete with the first 10 results for the Keywords. That's the difference.

To be fair it's often coincides with the competition in the niche for Ranking. But not always.

Thanks, I think that cleared up my confusion. I need to recheck my keyword research to get a better grip on the results.

Do you think that if the SEO difficulty seems low, but paid advertisers are high on top 10 it's still worth it to go after keywords?

Don't confine yourself to use just one tool.
That won't help either as estimation varies across different tools
For instance, i prefer kw finder + extensions for long-tail suggestions/silo
I'll cross-check them with Ahrefs scores later on.

I was watching this earlier last week. Comparing a fews giant tools.

my self are using ubersuggest and brandoverflow right now. Can't affort giant like semrush/ahrefs.

@HustleTong is right, since all this tools give estimation, it is good to have several tools for comparison.

@Halch install Keyword Surfer plugin, it will give you search volumes right on your searches. It's a pretty cool, free tool.

Looking at KW Difficulty scores across different tools is useless, it's almost like comparing penis sizes. If you ask a woman who knows how to fuck, she'll tell you it's not the length but the "Girth". Don't go for the KW difficulty scores they're just inaccurate.

I target long tail keywords because all the bigger ones are mostly taken over by bigger sites that I cannot beat. I look for the following KW traits to judge if I should go for it or not:

1. User generated content on the first page (social media, reddit, forum threads) - this is pretty easy to beat.

2. Sites weaker than mine that are 1:1 (affiliate:affiliate, e-commerce:e-commerce) comparison with mine - this helps establish that your site can rank since other similar sites are ranking, and if they are weaker there's a pretty good chance you can beat them.

3. misplaced/filler pages - for example if you search a keyword and you get irrelevant results because no one else has put up a page to answer the query. So you get authority sites or other sites as results but none of them answer the query exactly, some might come close but they are not targeting the KW - this one will take a bit of time but if you nail the search intent and target the KW, you'll surpass them eventually.

I go for 50% #1, 30% #2, 20% #3 - as my site ages I'll focus more on #2 and #3 since #1 is almost always lower volume.

Thanks for advice. I'm testing ubersuggest and comparing to keywords everywhere atm, also use keywords everywhere to spy more keywords from competitors as ubersuggest seems to miss some. I also use google tools which lead to original confusion to get as much data as I can before I launch my project.

That video gave me some insight as well. Huge differences so I guess I need to compare more the get even better results. I will try ahrefs 7 day. There was tips on this forum how to always use the 7 day trial. Also my tactic is to research as much keywords/posts as possible at one time so I have to do it only once a month. Right now checking about 100 posts for future.

I'm installing that one right now. I've been using ubersuggest to get some raw results about search volume etc. Then I manually google them to see whats on the first page. Then I use keywords everywhere to check their ranking keywords and get more data from them by using ubersuggest again. Don't know if I'm overcomplicating things, but want to be sure about competition before I actually write anything.

Thanks for advice guys!
