GUIDE: How To Find True (Estimate) Keyword Search Volume

Hey,

So I saw a few questions floating around about this, mainly because Google offer third party tools "estimate" ranges on search volumes now.

You can get more accurate search volume estimates, for free, from Google adwords planner.

Here's how:

1. Go to Google Keyword Planner
2. Once you've signed up, go to "Get Search Volume & Forecasts"
3. Search your keyword, I've done a completely random one, "large shoes", you'll get something like this:

4. Now that isn't the search volume, there's a few things you need to do. First, click the keyword button to select them, and choose Exact Match.

5. Then you'll have to select the absolute maximum CPC it will let you.

6. This particular keyword is set at £5.30 max.
7. Changed it to that, and you'll see the impression for your keyword change.
8. This is your estimated search volume for Feb

Why can this be helpful? I mean, I trust an estimate directly from the horses mouth ahead of tools like SurferSEO

Now - this doesn't work for every keyword, as I'm sure most of you know Google won't provide you with impression stats on keywords they don't think people bid on and they won't show you volume for data they don't have enough historic information on.

I know this will be obvious for most, but I thought it was a good guide to share

I use Google Trends. I have a keyword that I know how much volume does it have in hundreds accuracy (I mean I know it's volume is somewhere between 2600-2800 searches a day). So, I simply compare any new keyword with this one. And depending on the difference ratio on the trends, I figure out the new keyword's rough search volume. Easy breezy.

But, you are still missing search volume data for the numerous LSI keywords that the article will rank for.

I mean if you want to include them, you could skip the exact match selection.

I just do this for my initial keyword research, typically

When doing keyword research, LSI's tell you a LOT about your niche and main keyword. I'm always spending a lot of time on AnswerThePublic.com and I find myself in a completely different niche to what I started on. It's a maze, and at the end there's a pot of gold...
