If you run a business - and it doesn’t really matter what kind - you’ve probably got a Facebook Page. And just 2 days ago, Facebook announced some major updates to Facebook Pages, including the elimination of likes.

Here are some quick facts of new update:

• Likes are going away, in favor of follows - On the old version of Facebook Pages, people could separately like and follow your page. On the new version, likes will be gone completely. Anyone who hasn’t followed your page in the past won’t be transferred over as a follower, unfortunately (even if they’ve liked the page).
• There’s now a dedicated News Feed - Pages can now discover and interact with trends on the News Feed with the new functionality, an opportunity to better connect with audiences.
• Text-based Q&As, improved tools, easier navigation, and more

Until now, likes on a Facebook Page have been the most visible support metric. Now that they’re on the way out, encourage your audience to make sure they’re following you, so you don’t lose out on credibility when likes go away forever.

Currently they are may be rolling out but I can see the like button on pages. But yes if they remove the likes, it will harm major facebook business pages as many spend thousands of dollars to get likes and we knew not every liker is follower of page.

Thanks, hope his is true. ATM almost all natural engagement is on groups and pages are getting forgotton about. Hopefully this will bring some engagement back to pages.

Smart, now they will focus on getting followers, and producing a lot of free content for FB while FB actively monetizes their work.
For businesses, it means more work fewer results, and for FB it means more free content and an easier way of showing targeted ads

Does this mean all pages will lose their followers or the ones who had them will keep them and only likes will be gone? If everyone loses, then I guess it would be a chance for newcomers or for ones with a lesser budget to have a fighting chance. Still bigger entities are more able to buy followers so no changes in that. Also, they got more resources to put out content.

Nope they said only they will remove the like and not mention if that page liker is turn in the follower automatically after removing like feature.
So according to my understanding you will only lose the page likers(If they are not following you and if facebook automatically not turns them into followers after removing like feature). Your page followers will stay as it is.
