[Journey] Building an iOS & Android App Empire

Did you get any payment from the 3 ad services admob, fan and unity

Seeing your troubles with Admob, I am not complaining anymore about Google Ads and Core Updates.
Very irrational. Hate this.

Thanks for your Journey. Wish you good luck. Think you will be a great App Emperor aka game developer :)

Good luck on the journey thought about doing Android free mass game plays

Yes, got payment from Admob before, also several thousand $. FAN also paid me every time without any issue. Unity will pay me soon from what I see.

Yes, it is often interpreted as "whining" if someone keeps complaining about Google, but man, it is hilarious. I mean, at some point I just think "wtf is wrong with them?" keep limit accounts, keep removing apps for absolutely ridiculous reasons and so on.

Update:

As you guys know I will have to update my apps and change the ad networks. So far I had two options: Use Google Admob alone or use a mediation. Usually I would prefer Admob over anything else, because they got a 100% fill rate and the best ECPM, thats no secret. For mediation I always used Appodeal. However, I found something very weird. The earnings with Appodeal are incredibly low. An app, which should normally make $10+ makes just $1.

Normally I only activate Unity Ads and Facebook Audience Network on Appodeal to get the best possible revenue/fill rate.

I will now update my apps to one specific ads network (either FAN or Unity ads) and compare it to the earnings I made with Appodeal.

Normally a mediation should work in the way it will give you the best possible revenue by showing the most paying ads and maximizing the fill rate, so normally the revenue should be higher than just from one network. Looks like this is not the case from what I observed.

If I were to make another app, I would aim for the business niche, either freemium or outright paid.
Lots of openings to address business needs for people, and only a few basic apps.

Following you. FAN now is quite hard for blackhat apps and 4.1 policy rejection and Admob limit so it's hard to work normally as we used to do

Update:

Got no further email from Admob and their fill rate is still 0%. No other app got removed so far.

I updated most of the Android apps from Admob to FAN. Some are still in review.

I hired one guy to implement FAN into my iOS app, but this was a complete waste of time. After a few days this guy suddenly said "Oh sorry, my Mac is broken, I can't finish the job, sorry for wasting your time" ffs, but nothing I can do about it.

It just pisses me off I have to waste so much time just to FIX this crap instead of moving on and making new apps etc. such a waste of time.

Meanwhile, I don't want to update the apps to Appodeal. I just want to integrate FAN alone to compare the earnings to Appodeal.

Here are the stats from ONE app that I updated to FAN:

Fillrate is 90%. So there are at least 10% fewer earnings already. ECPM is decent. You can see on 5th January everything was 0%, because at this time the update was not live.

Btw. while I am waiting to get the iOS apps updated to FAN I will re-upload some of my older apps, which got deleted by crooked Google.

my ecpm is mostly 1-2$ how do u get so good ecpm looks like your traffic is only from T1 countries ? can u also tell me your CTR ?

hi nakamura, I've been following you for quite sometimes now. That's interesting, thanks for sharing it. Right now I'm making android apps but thinking if I should get into ios or not. Because ios seems more stable and have support from real human.
Can you shed some light for this subject given your current journey?

I didn't really check much. I get international traffic, but as you might have read I blocked countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Thailand, so the average Ecpm looks higher now, but the earnings are less because I get less traffic (no traffic from these countries anymore).

iOS is definitely worth it, but you better make sure to publish high-quality apps, because Apple is really picky. Like they are going to refuse your submitted app over and over again.

By the way, there are also many other Android stores you can try out. For example the Huawei Sture, Galaxy Store, Amazon Store and so on.

Hey nakamura, great journey!
How do you make many apps in a short period of time?
I believe you're either re-making old apps (reskin) or you're not making the very best apps out there cause that will take time..

So how do you do it?

Any suggestions for keyword research to get organic downloads from day 1?

You won't get organic downloads from day 1, because they are very likely to put your app in a sandbox for at least two weeks. Maybe you are lucky and you will get random downloads from a very longtail keyword. This means your rankings are nowhere to be found or somewhere on spot 120. Google's algorithm is shit. Same as their search engine. This sandbox or also called "shadow banning" (it is actually the same) is all over Google. YouTube, Google Play, Google.com, etc.

Just a short update:

One account got terminated, probably because they found I replied an app they previously removed. Looks like I didn't change/reskin it enough.

Also, Google removed one of my apps for an absolutely ridiculous reason again. Its just so fucking frustrating and incredible. What makes it so goddamn ridiculous is how they first approve an app and then if you update the app they suddenly find something in your title or description and COMPLETELY remove your app.

Why are they having this crazy approach by directly suspending the app for something, which you can easily edit or change? Like I could easily change the title if I want, would take one minute. Why would they directly suspend the app? And especially then, when the policy they are quoting has absolutely NOTHING to do with the title or anything? Its just beyond me.....and no, I don't believe these are so fucking stupid that they can't understand their own policy, I think it is on purpose.

Ok, here I go and show you guys what they suspended my app for:
"Issue with your app

Your app contains content that doesn't comply with the Deceptive Behavior policy.

Issue details

We found an issue in the following area(s):

Full description (en_US): “This is not an official app and is not associated with the developers or the publisher.”"

"About the Deceptive Behavior policy

We don't allow apps that attempt to deceive users or enable dishonest behavior including but not limited to apps which are determined to be functionally impossible. Apps must provide an accurate disclosure, description and images/video of their functionality in all parts of the metadata. Apps must not attempt to mimic functionality or warnings from the operating system or other apps. Any changes to device settings must be made with the user's knowledge and consent and be reversible by the user."

WTF?!?!?! Basically I had a disclaimer and they punished me for it. LOL.

Yes guys, you see: This whole journey could be so much easier, if I wouldn't have to deal with Google (which have a fucking monopoly and do whatever they want). Like imagine how EASY it would be if I could just upload apps, monetize them and everything is good. But no, its like a fucking cycle...upload apps, get them removed for a ridiculous reason, upload them again, removed again. There is no room for improvement. And it takes me HOURS to fully reskin the apps and what is even more annoying: Copy pasting all the translations into the Google Play Store.
