My laptop used to hurt my eyes but now I can stay on it much longer once I started using a program called "Iris Mini". You can adjust the amount of blue light your computer is emitting within the program. They also have an "Iris Pro", but the mini works for me.
I would recommend running the screen at 3900K or lower. Lower has more red light and less blue light. Too much blue light can cause problems, if I remember correctly, it may be responsible for snow blindness.
On the vitamin front, you can help your eyes by taking some Lutein and Bilberry. You'll feel the difference, good luck !!
On a side note from what I've read, LED bulbs even the 3900k or lower don't put out much red light and are still heavy on blue light. Research it and protect your eyes within your house.
I'm still using some CFL's because they produce a good amount of red light at the lower spectrums like 2800K or 3200K. But I use the LED's outside or in places I don't hang out much because of the energy savings.
